If they want to pull the strings of power, they will need to move far enough to draw a few of us to them. Until the Republican party can start tempting some members of this forum to join them, they will remain the party of violence, hatred, racism and lies.
We have long heard that we need to become more like Republicans. Every time we lose and every time we win, the argument is voiced that we need to turn into Republicans.
Truth is, the Republican party is now exposed as a party without ethic or principal. It's platform is officially, whatever Trump wants. That has not, as far as I have heard, been officially changed. They are a terrorist organization and most of them have doubled down instead of folding. They are trying to stay in the game after attempting and failing to draw an inside straight. They don't even have an ace, king or pair of anything and they are still trying to take the pot.
The problem they face is a complete lack of ethic and guidance. They have their mob rules and nothing else. Here is my fear though. Since they are not even trying to play a decent game, even after their evils have been exposed, my only guess is that they are still planning to pull a gun and steal the pot.
Look at it. To stay in the game right now, they have to either come up with a way to brainwash some of us, convince some of us or pull a gun on us.
They wont hold onto the pot long even if they do pull a gun on us. They don't have what it takes to hold onto it. Look at the players, if they take control, it is going to be a Downfall Video even without a war. When Palin looks like the smartest, most ethical, and dignified member of your crew, you are in big trouble.
So the simple truth is, they need to swing way left. They need to swing far enough left to support legislation that AOC introduces. Then comes the entire, ethic, violence and decency thing. They need to stop tolerating violent talk. Until they start swiftly go after violent racists and make it clear that the Southern Strategy is a thing of the past, they are well and totally doomed. They need to start making Mitt look like their most far right example. Rubio, Cruz, Hawley and the like will have to be ejected quick or their brand will be marked on all of them and they will go down with the worst of them.
If I were a Republican strategist, I would pretty much drop the idea of making another Tea Party to hide the party sins. Anything like another Tea Party will attract the same violent, stupid traitors that the first one did. If I were a Republican strategist, I would advise my clients to go with the division in the party. Make it real clear that you are not Jim Jordan's running buddy. Make it real clear that Mitch does not speak for you, ever. It might be a risk, but if I were a Republican politician and wanted to have a long career and life, I would bail out now, write my book exposing the villainy of my compatriots and wait for a few years while carefully rebuilding my image. If I were a brave Republican with ethics, I would stay and write my book exposing the villainy of my compatriots while supporting President Biden during this national emergency.
Honestly we have a great president trying to save our nation from numerous ills and enemies and the current Republicans are screaming for unity without uniting behind our president. That's a pretty bad hand to be holding right now.

The only reason the RepubliCONs are able to be so lunatic right is because the vote is not fair or complete.

go full blown empiric warmonger, jack up the already outrageous outlays on the MIC/security/surveillance/war state
continually assault the already extremely frail welfare state and programmes like Social Security and Medicare
dismiss pretty much all forms of race-based and gender-based uplift programmes
trod down a never-ending course of privatisation and de-regulation
shill out for the giant banks and Wall Street
fight like hell to stop even moderate healthcare reforms like a public option and allowing the government to use its scale of economy buying power to vastly decrease what it pays for pharma
embrace forced-birthers and the culture of phoney RW baby jeebus posturing in regards to women's rights
allow all sorts of climate change denialist mentality to at least get a big say-so in the debate
shill out for big oil and other environmentally destructive forces and sectors?
that is suicidal politically for us (and fucked up for the nation and the world overall)
hard pass

(9,269 posts)The Senate and Electoral College that value land over people. Gerrymandering. Minority rule is baked into our system and they gleefully take full advantage of this. They dont even pretend to support things that people want because they dont have to.

(39,377 posts)Too many people making too much money off the crazy. As soon as they do something bipartisan, they get called out on radio, social media and TV, no one stands up for them and things fall apart in a hurry. Ask Graham and Rubio over drinks what happened to the immigration bill in 2013. And that was pre-Trump, a lifetime ago in terms of crazy.
