(4,959 posts)Progressive Caucus has announced that it's included in the House Reconciliation Bill.
I'm going to let them figure out how it gets done!

(19,061 posts)But there could be a way forward, offer a slow timeline or waivers for states like WV. There are a million ways to get this done.
$15 Minimum wage is extremely important to me, not because I have made less than $15 an hour for a long time, but because I remember what it was like to struggle on $10 an hour and how hopeless life seemed then. I don't want my fellow citizens to feel hopeless. $15 will lift millions out of poverty and give hope to tens of millions. But $15 should be adjusted annually or we'll just end up in the same spot in a couple of decades.

(15,605 posts)Manchin better be OK with it.

(4,959 posts)Frankly I think it should be $15 now (or actually $20 now) but I've never understood Manchin's problem except that he is a dick.

(58,785 posts)the deficit, an argument for being able to include it in a bill passed by reconciliation. So far, Sanders as finance chair has not announced, nor any of the party leaders.

That's all I posted. What happens from the House to the Senate in terms of procedure I'm not sure. But I bet Nancy Pelosi knows.

(4,959 posts)including it.
Maybe not - but I'd be shocked if Nancy put it in with no input from the Senate.

I guess lifting people out of poverty is the important criteria. Besides, now that the CBO says it's going to cost jobs - it fits in perfectly with reconciliation as it affects the budget!!!
And here's an article from 2019 that discusses the CBO's flawed metrics as well as information from states that raised minimum wage without job loss.
https://equitablegrowth.org/research-shows-raising-the-minimum-wage-does-not-spell-job-loss/
I'm pretty sure - we can find an paper or research for any side anyone wants to sit on. But I prefer talking about morality and the idea that people are trying to live on $7.25/hour - or $290/week - or $15,000 year (before taxes) is disgraceful. States with that wage in 2021:
Alabama, Georgia (actually they were even lower except for Employers subject to Fair Labor Standards), Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, NH, NC, ND, OK, PA, SC, TN, Texas, Utah, Wisconsin, Wyoming (also lower except like GA).
I'm sorry but even in some of these states with a lower cost of living - it's shameful.
