A radical shift in the voter/representative dynamic in the GOP

For years socially moderate, fiscally conservative Republicans got elected by giving lip service to the more radical, racist, fundamentalist ideology of a segment of their voters. Their goal was always fealty to the Rich and Corporations, and they used these voters to get elected to benefit the Top 1%.
But now we are seeing the extreme wing of the Party getting their candidates elected. And doing so because the moderate Republicans are still voting for any "R" without thought of what they represent. It's the socially moderate, fiscally conservative voters who are putting in radical, racist, fundamentalist representatives.

...there's still an enormous portion of the population who thinks "they're all the same". Among those, a fair number flatter themselves that believing "they're all the same" is, in fact, a form of lofty wisdom, part of being "above the fray" and not letting themselves get fooled by silly partisan games.
