At a hearing on the governments request that William Billy Chrestman remain incarcerated pending trial, his attorneys said the Olathe man was not a serious flight risk, chances were slim that he would attempt to obstruct the prosecution and he was not a danger to the community.
It is an astounding thing to imagine storming the United States Capitol with sticks and flags and bear spray, arrayed against armed and highly trained law enforcement, Chrestmans attorneys said in a court filing opposing the prosecutors request. Only someone who thought that they had an official endorsement would even attempt such a thing.
And a Proud Boy who had been paying attention would very much believe he did.
That endorsement, Chrestmans defense argued, came from Trump

(3,384 posts)No one put a gun up to their heads to do what they did. You can't claim ignorance as your sole defense. Well, I guess you can. You just may not end up with the results you want.

What other defense could they possibly have? They were out for a leisurely stroll, and somehow found themselves inside the Capitol, carrying the House Speaker's podium?
Might as well go with the "Charlie Made Me Do It" defense.

This is a critical point.
