So Joe R. Manchin (you know what the R stands for) is voting against Neera Tanden for what reason?

(79 posts)Of sorts derailing a nominee for an important position made by a democratic president when we are already pressed for time in dealing with a pandemic and an economic crisis. Sounds like some things all Dems could agree on.

You don't want the head of the OMB to have a finger on the scales, you want a technocrat that crunches the numbers.
If the head of the OMB is seen as a partisan then every projection will be seen as an ideological battle.
For the same reason Biden appointed Garland as AG, some offices work better without a partisan manager. I wouldn't be surprised if Manchin's objection had the blessing of JB and upon review they wanted to go with a more respected budget manager and find a better fit for Tandem.
When Biden announced her nomination I thought it was his first and possibly only error in appointments.
