if you've been following his plight in Texas, dealing with temps, broken pipes.
I know I felt desperate to help. Someone here, who we know, in our beloved community.

oh and I was going to donate to Texans anyway but it's nice knowing I'm sending $$ to Democrats, not republicans who supported this idiot state gov't.

He works in the gourmet food field. He imports pasta from Italy.
He lived in Italy and France for 20 years and attended the great cooking schools in those countries.

(32,017 posts)Were embarrassed enough, as is, asking for charity, but it would seriously hurt us to know that people who cant afford to give are giving us money at this time.
If you can, and if its comfortable, heres the PayPal link:

(5,640 posts)Please do not be embarrassed. I wish I could do more. This is not charity...this is what people do.
Dang, this is so hard for all who are in this right now.
Love and hugs!

(16,254 posts)I was going to donate to Texas, but much better to know it is going to a Democrat.
Do you also have a house that was flooded? What a mess to contend with. I can't imagine how you can find all the leaks without tearing things apart. Good luck on getting back to normal...some day.

(8,329 posts)I wish I was there to help, cleaning up messes is my forte. My dad often commented on my strong back and weak mind. My contribution is because I can not be there to help you or your neighbors.
I lived in a Presidentially declared disaster zone after a hurricane, I was lucky in that a 10 mile drive and there was no impact. They were difficult times, and I can only imagine the stress there as the entire state was impacted, you cant just drive down the street for help.
Keep the faith

(26,500 posts)thank you for asking. I can't complain. I'm sure you've heard it all before but my heart (as well as some $) goes out to you and yours, as you try to deal with this mess.
I'll check into the sweatshirt status. Seems like they got slammed. Much more than expected.
Laelth
(32,017 posts)No hurry on the shirt, obviously. I didnt mean to pester you about it, but I note that Whoopi Goldberg got her Bernie shirt before we did. She was wearing it a few days ago on a morning talk show.
Of course, shes Whoopi, so ...

(10,168 posts)I can afford what I sent so don't fret. It's not much and I can probably come up with more. If you and your daughter need more, just speak up, ok? DUers will help you.
BTW you had me worried sick several days ago. I'm so happy you two are alive and well. For some reason I thought you were a woman. No idea why. Good luck!
Laelth
(32,017 posts)If we need more help, we will let you know. Were gonna survive, but its going to take a good deal of money to get our trailer functional again.
Bless you, and thank you.

Please simply pay it forward someday when you can - no rush, no hurry, and doesn't have to be $$ - a hug for someone in need will work.

If you need supplies let me know. I might have some stuff I can send to you to help repair the trailer. Send me a message with a list of what you need. I have lots of stuff in the shed, cpvc, pvc, etc...I can even send tools.

(406 posts)Grew up poor in north eastern PA, the snow belt, and I know what it feels like to be cold. My best friends for years (three of them, deceased now) were Texans and I know that you are really the salt of the earth for the most part. Texas is kind of (big) microcosm of the whole country right now. We can't let these damn repugs get the best of us. Hang in there and know that we're all in this together. I am thankful that I found DU before I did something desperate.
Blessed be. There but for fortune.

(11,563 posts)I well remember Letterman's first show after 911. VERY subdued, as was proper, and often hovering on the edge of tears.
He talked of this tiny town in Montana that was badly hit by a poor local economy, but they felt like they NEEDED to help NYC. They held bake sales and whatnot, and raised something north of $300, which they sent. A drop in the bucket, compared to the needs of a metropolis, but they had VERY limited means.
Letterman pointed out their circumstances and how little they had, but what they did anyway. What he said has stuck with me for 20 years.
"If that doesn't tell you everything you need to know about (town name), then I can't help you."
So...like that. Love DU.

Sent some your way to help with repairs and groceries. We were fortunate here and avoided storm damage but never lost power.
Best of luck with your recovery......

(7,808 posts)My positive thought is: the temperature is rising in Texas. This will not fix your pipes, but it will give you hope, and improve your outlook on what's possible. Politically, you already know what to do, but you may have many more voters on your side after all the ice melts.
