I really can't understand how tightly Repubs are sticking by the former president

I really can't understand how tightly Repubs are sticking by the former president as he runs into a tsunami of legal trouble.

It doesn't take a genius to see how tainted he will be in a year by lawsuits and serious criminal trouble.

Are they seriously incapable of looking ahead and thinking maybe they should distance themselves a bit? It's just nuts.

They see 70 million votes.

They know he has the goods on them. Remember, the potus has access to all the wire taps that cheney installed after 911.

McConnell and his ilk will stick with the former guy. If they don't stand with him, he'll turn the voters against them.

If they break too soon, FOX, OANN, and other cult media will hammer them and their names will be lodged in the cultists' so-called minds as a "traitor."

Once the cult starts breaking up, it'll be safe for them to pretend they never met him, barely heard of him.

Republicans apparently want a tyrant, a daddy figure who can tell them who all is responsible for their personal failings. He has made hate great again. It has been established that being a liar and a cheat is a positive thing.

So they stand by the former president because they don't want to anger him. If he's angry, he could end their political career with a single speech or statement.

And, the craziness extended way beyond the 7 million vote loss in early November.
So, given the pouting & tantrums until Inauguration Day, it's only been 5 weeks.
Business as usual will kick in in relatively short order, IMO.
Let's revisit this topic in September.

Then comes the fact that the monkeys will follow Trump off a cliff.
If he puts up primary challengers, they'll crap their pants.

A lot of big money GOP donors hate Trump. That cuts off a cash supply.

Fortunately, Trump will likely be dead (I don't care how), or in prison within the next couple of years.

Republican voters are a shrinking group, but their primary voters are the most rw of them. In gerry-mandered districts, whoever wins the primary is probably going to win the general election, so not having a primary opponent is of utmost importance. Embracing Trump can insure that doesn't happen.
