Alayna Treene, Jonathan Swan
John Boehner has been going off script while recording the audio version of his new memoir, using expletives and asides not in the book such as the former Republican House speaker saying, Oh, and Ted Cruz, go f**k yourself."
Why it matters: The book is appropriately titled, On the House: A Washington Memoir." It promises to share colorful tales from the halls of power, the smoke-filled rooms around the halls of power and his fabled tour bus. Two sources familiar with the tapings told Axios about the asides.

What they're saying: I can confirm there were some off-script moments during his recording of the audiobook," Boehner spokesman David Schnittger said. "He pretty much just let it fly, as he did when he was working on the book itself. Hes not really interested in being anything other than himself these days. That is kind of the spirit of the entire project.

(9,074 posts)It sounds hilarious. I'm here for Republicans five drinks in who hate Ted Cruz.
I kind of love retired people in that way. My elderly mom is a lot like that. Whatever fucks she had are but a distant memory in the now of her abject inability to not say exactly what she's wanted to say for decades. Socially, many people side-eye her when she goes on for any length. Personally, it's one of my favorite things about her.
People whose fuck well has run dry are some of my favorite humans.

(11,474 posts)My mom 93 was all worried about a conversation I had with a cousin about getting vaccine caring what cousins thought about this and that.
I am almost 65 been retired a few years and I told her who cares what they think, in fact who cares what anyone thinks. I told her by the time we are older people know who we are so say what you want!

(9,074 posts)I know my mother is a terrible influence in this regard. I just don't care like I used to. "Oh no, someone's unhappy about some bit of nothing that affects them not at all."
I'm a highly empathetic person when a situation is serious and requires it. But the day to day nonsense . . . man, I just don't have the patience anymore. The best part is, it really hones the snark. My cousin called me the other day, highly dramatic, because another cousin said a thing to her daughter that no one on earth would ever bother about. And she was kind of trying to enlist us all in her indignance. I replied, "Cousin, the only possible way I could care about this is if I had a child and then you kidnapped it and tried to extract my give a shit by force." I thought it was hilarious (I live to amuse myself in my head). She was not so happy.
Hasn't messaged me since, though. I see this as a total win.

I use to come up with ideas to brighten his day, now I realize let him be, I am not his shrink!

(11,474 posts)So I am used to him, he has a funny side, a creative side, hard working side and this grumpy side.
I think covid just stretched us all to our max.

(5,661 posts)Ive never cared what other people thought but for the first 40+ years of my life I did things to get along.
Nowadays that can fuck off! Not to say I am hard to get along with but I dont suffer fools and tRump supporters get the full blowback if they wanna get in my face.
I am single now. The first question I ask a man that wants to get to know me is...Where do you stand on tRump? If the answer is not full stop against... then they can fuck off and I tell them so. Even lukewarm gets a resounding fuck off!
Welcome to DU by the way. See ya around.

(9,074 posts)I'm a naturally shy/introverted type. But I can project a very outgoing personality very easily. People don't believe I'm shy at all. But I'm . . . let's say . . . politic. Especially at work. You kind of have to be.
But as I enter middle age, if someone's talking to me all animatedly about something that is not important whatsoever, I just. Do. Not. Care. At all. I've experienced and gone through way too much in the last twenty years to get to where I am to be obsessed or even involved in the most trifling bullshit.
This, with all that's going on in the world, is the hill you're dying on for the next four hours until you're distracted by something else?
Ugh. I just don't entertain it anymore. I can't. I have . . . anything else to do.
Nice to meetcha back ^^
