Lady Gaga's dog walker Ryan Fischer, who was critically wounded during an armed robbery in which the singer's two French bulldogs were stolen, is expected to make a "full recovery," according to his family.

"Ryan is receiving extraordinary care in the hospital right now and his doctors expect him to make a full recovery," the family said in a statement to TMZ. "We cannot possibly say enough to thank all of the first responders, nurses and doctors who have worked so tirelessly to care for Ryan."

The robbery occurred on Wednesday at about 9:40 p.m. on Sierra Bonita Avenue in Hollywood, according to police.

Fischer was shot one time in the chest, Los Angeles Police Capt. Jonathan Tippet tells PEOPLE, and is now in stable after police said on Thursday that he was in critical condition.

the walker is still alive, and justice will be served in due time. often when a theft of this level get publicized or when the thief realized they stole something of much greater value to the victim than they could ever sell the loot for, they will destroy it ASAP. too hot to handle. the reward incentivizes anyone in on the theft to return the dogs to their owner through alternate channels. factor in how stupid your average thief is, and the odds of apprehension are very good.

Lady Gaga pays the hospital bills, which is something you'd do quietly. We don't know. Putting up a reward for the dogs really doesn't matter, and nothing can stop the cops from finding who did it.

I'm glad she got her dogs back.

for the hospital treatment and missed pay. That would be the case with N.J. homeowners insurance.

That doesn't meant she didn't do more for the guy or his family.

A friend looked up other cases. There have been several incidences in San Francisco where French bulldogs were stolen.

And other breeds are also stolen right from people's fenced yards. They are stolen from cars. They are stolen during house burglaries.

I know how she felt. I would never get over something like this.

Not blaming Lady GaGa at all. Apparently she has been super concerned about the dog guy and is being very supportive.

But a man was shot. I really can’t be concerned about dogs in that paradigm. The dogs don’t even factor in.

But it was once, and he’s going to be fine. There has been plenty of coverage about him. He’s actually being portrayed as a hero. He fought the criminals so I’m thinking he’s pretty damn brave by any measure.
