Interesting Letter to the Editor we ran yesterday

Last edited Mon Mar 1, 2021, 04:20 PM - Edit history (1)

This was in the Bonner County Daily Bee, edition of 2-28-21:

As the mother of two Eagle Scouts, I am fussy about flag etiquette. Here are some do's and don'ts for our flag.

1. Do not place any other flag more prominently than the American flag. No politician or cause supersedes the United States flag.

2. Never bastardize the flag for your political beliefs like changing the colors. It is not gray with a blue, red or any other color stripe. It is red, white and blue.

3. Do not display the flag with the Stars and Bars. The Virginia Confederate flag is about the destruction of the United States. That is its history.

4. Never use the flagpole of the US flag to try to beat a capital police officer to death while chanting "Shoot him with his own gun."

5. Never cut the American flag down off of the Capitol and throw it to the ground as insurrectionists cheer.

6. Never try to replace the US Capitol's flag with a Trump flag.

What happened on Jan. 6 was the culmination of an anti-democract, anti-American movement that has been building in our area for a while. It was not liberals in Trump hats that disgraced our flag. It was people who believe that only they should have a vote, and with Trump's lies and hateful words ringing in their ears, they were willing to spill blood to make Trump king.

Any politician or person that does not condemn that day is not an American let alone an American patriot.

On edit: I didn't write this letter, but I printed it. One of my duties at the newspaper is to write occasional articles, so if I write anything it will go in a different part of the paper.

Bonner County is a county in the northern part of the U.S. state of Idaho. As of the 2010 census, the population was 40,877. The county seat and largest city is Sandpoint. Partitioned from Kootenai County and established in 1907, it was named for Edwin L. Bonner, a ferry operator. Wikipedia

have ANY idea of the 'rules' regarding the American flag.
As far as I'm concerned, the most obscene action I've seen with it has been the times that IQ45 went over and carressed, hugged, and groped the flag as if he had paid it $130,000 for the right to do so.

It was disgusting. It also reminded me of the rule that the American flag should not touch anything beneath it, so Shitgibbon needs to keep his filthy paws off of it. (He is about as far beneath it as you can get.)

"It is not gray with a blue, red or any other color stripe. It is red, white and blue."

THANK YOU!!!

I'm SO offended by the "thin blue line" flag, or whatever they call it. These are the folks who think it's disrespectful to take a knee during the national anthem & yet they vandalize & bastardize the American flag, changing the colors & adding a blue stripe. I call it vandalism of our flag.

Lots of organizations have their own flag, think about the flags used to represent the Navy, Marines, Air Force, Army etc. They developed their own flags, they didn't bastardize the American flag. People who support police can do the same, design your own damn flag.

I am gay and I have seen many, many flags that replaced the stripes of red and white with multi-colors. This is also not acceptable. As stated, usurping the flag for political statements is just not to be tolerated. I like my rainbow flag, but I love my Star Spangled Banner the most.

That are filthy and so tattered that literally half is gone. I always reverentially display my flag on Memorial Day, Flag Day, July 4. It was draped over my father’s casket, a WWII Navy vet. He died in 1956, so it only has 48 stars but it’s still correct to display it. I checked. I’m not allowing the right wing to misappropriate the flag. It’s so large that I need one of my neighbors to help me fold it correctly.

We learned about the rules for handling the flag and how ro raise and lower the flag and do a proper color guard ceremony, as I'm sure you did. I really wish more Americans would have that experience growing up. We might see a lot less flag-related foolishness going on. Or at least a bit less.

One more point I consider important: the flag is never made into clothing. It can be a patch on a uniform, or similar, but not a shirt, hat, cape or what have you.

Sun Feb 28, 2021, 05:54 PM
Feb 2021

It should always be folded into a triangle when not hung from a vertical pole designated for that purpose.
The flag is to be displayed daily. Raised in the morning and taken down at dusk.
Clothing or decoration made from a flag is a desecration of the flag.
It is not appropriate to hang it on a pole sticking out from a pick-up bed nor to be displayed in any state of disrepair.
No tattered or faded flags are to be displayed but are to be destroyed when a replacement in good order is available..

The US flag always goes to the right side of any other flag. The right side is the place of honor.

I don't know how many pickups I've seen with the US flag on the left and the Trump flag on the right. I don't think they even know what flag etiquette is.
