I'm north of Cincinnati now. Lucky for me the senior village I live in arranged for several clinics so those of us in the independent living cottages could just go there. I have friends in their 80's or 90's that still live in their own home. For some, it took 6-8 weeks to finally score an appointment - and believe me, we had a whole team trying to get lucky and hit one of the sites in the 88 seconds new appointments lasted.

It seems to be loosening up a little bit now but not much. I got lucky and was online at the right time to get an appointment for my nephew (over 60) at his local Kroger for late March.

The appointment I scored was in Hyde Park so not bad.

Kroger's move to a central website did improve things quite a lot. At least it is easier to search.

Also, Abbott was actively diverting vaccine she FEMA started distribution.

Some is coming through pharmacies now, but it is extremely thought.

Also the CDC vaccine availability website is extremely inaccurate for TX.

Consequently, it's a shiteshow of randomness.

Also people are so friendly we got invited to their place 'up north" they called it. Had a blast. Bar hopped from VFW to VFW buying pull tabs

percentage of doses used. Then it looks a bit different. DC, who looks awesome in the first example, with 19.5% of the population receiving at least one dose, has only used 63% of the vaccine it's been sent. Last place out of everyone.

And while it's great that 19.5% of people in DC have gotten their first shot, it's probably going to be significantly easier to coordinate vaccine distribution with a population of only 700K versus doing so in Texas, who has given out 73% of its available vaccine, only gotten 8% of people vaccinated with one dose, but is trying to vaccinate a state with a population of almost 29 MILLION people.

In short, we're comparing apples and oranges.

Vaccines - more than they could handle? Or purposely slowing it? Think the latter is what Abbott
doing.

On edit: % used is probably a complex subject huh. Other than pure inefficiency, demand comes into play. Also, what about age of population? For some reason, don't see DC as having a super high population of older folks. However, if they've vaccinated older people, they need to ratchet down to younger?

make sense. Some states may have a younger population with fewer eligible in 1A and 1B. Can a state with a population of 500K (Wyoming) fairly be measured against a state with a population of 39 million (California)?

Obviously it's good to look at the numbers because every state should be constantly looking to improve and trying to get as many people vaccinated as possible... but I also think it's important to keep in mind you can't just look at two states and assume Vermont is doing awesome and Texas sucks because outside factors may make the answer more complex than that.

Most of population lives in fewer places geographically? Yet their efficiency is low so they've got vaccines not used. Maybe rest of population too scattered and remote to reach?

I do think, in Republican states with some exceptions their brain does go to... "How can we help all citizens in a pandemic health battle" different culture.

(GA has gone to 1B but excludes higher education faculty and staff. AL does not and the Dept of Health is fine with folks from out of state getting shots there)
