Just did my taxes for 2020 and because of the SALT caps, we've got $19,782 in deductions that we can't take. Most of that is real estate tax and a little bit of mortgage interest. These would have been deductible in the past. Ouch.
They need to revise that part of the tax code at the very least. It was a way to punish the high property tax states of California, New York and New Jersey which happen to vote Dem.

This is my pain - along with 80% of New Jersey tax filers.
The law the GOP overturned was in place since 1913 - it prevented Americans from.paying property taxes twice.
It was also in place in the 1950's - the oft quoted highest corporate taxes and top percent of earners paying their fair share.

(9,287 posts)Stephen Moore, one of the top economic advisers to Donald Trump's presidential campaign, on Tuesday said the new Republican tax bill would hit one groups of Americans especially hard.
It's death to Democrats," Moore told Bloomberg's Sahil Kapur.
Moore, a conservative economist, pointed to provisions that would repeal the state and local tax deduction which is used heavily in the high-tax states New York and California and new proposed taxes on large universities as examples of provisions that go after liberals.
"They go after university endowments, and universities have become playpens of the left," Moore told Bloomberg. "And getting rid of the mandate is to eventually dismantle Obamacare."
