BREAKING
The voter suppression bills in the Georgia legislature appear to be hitting some roadblocks.
Republicans have abandoned their plan to end no excuse absentee voting.
Now, a key House committee hearing on what's left of the proposal has been abruptly canceled.

2. In related news, the pressure on Georgia-based corporations to speak out against these bills continues to increase.
A new digital campaign by the @SEIU and @progress4_ga slams @CocaCola, @ups, @aflac, @HomeDepot, @southerncompany, and @Delta for supporting vote suppressors

(36,502 posts)They see the changing demographics & don't want to piss of a huge segment of the market. Still, I'd revoke their personhood rights if I could.

(19,107 posts)But a lot of corporations are run in part by very ethical people. There are highly ethical companies out there that are successful.
But also, corporate culture in the US has learned that caring and showing an image of caring is lucrative.

Although the law requires them to serve stockholders by pursuing profits with due diligence, liberal and conservative executives of course tend to view their responsibilities differently. Corporate cultures can vary a great deal.

(19,107 posts)Maybe even a slight republican lean in some states. Why 2020 broke all records and tilted hard Dem was due to the pandemic. Democrats took the virus way more seriously than Republicans and voted by mail.
Going forward, 2020 won't be the norm.

(58,698 posts)Sure, we're a blue state, but the areas that elect repubs make sense from a demographic and geographic point of view.
I don't see that vote by mail really affects that.

(15,038 posts)I've been voting by mail for some 25 or 30 years and each year more and more people do so, both parties. We also have quite generous extended voting days and multiple drop off boxes. The number of polling places and drop boxes has gotten smaller each election, because more people vote by mail, but they're still quite available with minimum effort.
This last election I drove my ballot about 15 miles to the main drop-off box for the County, but that was more as a big f-u to DeJoy's efforts to screw the postal service. That, and because in the pandemic having a reason to drive a little was a welcome excursion for my wife and I.
