mass communications (audio, video, the internet, etc.,etc...). Or they're giant scumbags, who don't give two fucks about us being aware of their actions and are the epitome of cynicism. I'm gonna go with the second one. Even if though you could also apply a little bit of the first one to many of them.

It's called "Grammstanding" after former Senator Phil Gramm (R-TX), who would vote against funding for a big project like a bridge, and then appear at the ribbon-cutting to take credit for it.

Interestingly, Gramm entered Congress as an humble college professor, and retired as a multi-millionaire.

They also liked to take credit for certain parts of the stimulus bill that Obama passed, while at the same time complaining about it. Republicans depend on their base being stupid enough not to catch them at this kind of thing.
