After Republicans threaten to stop all Senate business Biden reveals he'd support filibuster reform

President Joe Biden told ABC News that “he supports changing the Senate’s filibuster rule back to requiring senators talk on the floor to hold up a bill, the first time he has endorsed reforming the procedure the White House has for weeks insisted the president is opposed to eliminating.”

He told George Stephanopoulos he wants to return to the "talking filibuster."

Biden, for the first time, says he wants to overhaul the filibuster

WILMINGTON — President Biden said Tuesday he wants the Senate to overhaul the filibuster, embracing for the first time a major change to the chamber's rules that could make it easier for him to enact a far-reaching agenda that is blocked by Republicans.

“I don’t think that you have to eliminate the filibuster. You have to do what it used to be when I first got to the Senate back in the old days,” Biden told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos in an interview to be aired Wednesday. “You had to stand up and command the floor, you had to keep talking . . . so you’ve got to work for the filibuster.”

“So you’re for that reform? You’re for bringing back the talking filibuster?” Stephanopoulos said.

“I am. That’s what it was supposed to be,” Biden replied. “It’s almost getting to the point where democracy is having a hard time functioning.”

Senators are allowed to read the names in phone books, read articles in newspapers, anything. It does not have to have anything to do with the subject of the bill.

Probably not a lot of filibustering going on in Texas. McTurtle has it so that a senator can start a filibuster,
have a clerk read it while they go to lunch, even home to bed. Small wonder congress is broken.

to prevent uncompromising OFFENSIVE tyranny--ramming through a deeply partisan agenda.

Did they not consider uncompromising DEFENSIVE tyranny--using it to prevent ANYTHING from getting passed in order to make the other party look bad?

HAMLET: ... though it make the unskilful
laugh, cannot but make the judicious grieve; the
censure of the which one must in your allowance
o'erweigh a whole theatre of others. O, there be
players that I have seen play, and heard others
praise, and that highly, not to speak it profanely,
that, neither having the accent of Christians nor
the gait of Christian, pagan, nor man, have so
strutted and bellowed that I have thought some of
nature's journeymen had made men and not made them
well, they imitated humanity so abominably.

First Player: I hope we have reformed that indifferently with us, sir.

HAMLET: O, reform it altogether. And let those that play
your clowns speak no more than is set down for them...
that's villainous, and shows a most pitiful ambition
in the fool that uses it...."

The people are with Joe. His policies are supported by democratic and Republican citizens alike. That’s bipartisanship.

The problem is, the GOP members of Congress are out of touch with their constituents. They’re only in power because of gerrymandering.

With unlimited filibusters, every bill gets filibustered. Make it one filibuster per senator per year,

It will make them really think hard about the bills they plan to filibuster. In the Congress we have now, no thought is necessary since everything is filibustered. At one filibuster per year, they might not filibuster "An Act to Make Salt the Official Seasoning for French Fries, Even Though It Kinda Already Is" or "An Act to Require the New York City Military Entrance and Processing Station to play 'Alice's Restaurant Massacree' Every Year on the Date Arlo Guthrie was Rejected for Military Service" just because a Democrat wrote the bill.
