During one summer break, the youth band I was in, made up of kids from all around L.A. county, attended state competition in San Diego. To save money, the bandleader booked us room and board at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot. Our huts were less than 200 yards from the runway. I was the only one who got a good night's sleep.
