1. The one thing that has not aged well

is those Original Series uniforms (where no kitsch has gone before ... or since)

15. I had two short sleeve velour shirts (blue and purple) when I was in college, but I outgrew them.

I have a long sleeve black velour shirt that still fits though, but I haven't had an occasion to wear it in almost a decade. At least it is clean and hanging in the closet.

2. My One Degree of Separation from William Shatner

My brother was his driver during the first (I think it was the first) Star Trek movie. He said he was hoping to be assigned to Leonard Nimoy but was assigned to Shatner, instead. It took a while, but he came to really like the guy and Shatner wrote a letter of recommendation for him.

I guess that qualifies as a one degree separation.

5. That's pretty cool!

I think it qualifies!

It's interesting to meet famous people and see what they are like when not performing.

11. I thought the Lincoln Project should have got him to play Denny Crane coming on as the former

guy's lawyer during the impeachment hearings. I loved him in Boston legal. He must have had fun playing that role.

13. Me too! Best role ever for Shatner.

A nice Jewish boy from Montreal who was first a Shakespearean actor. Breakout TV role on Star Trek and several series after that but my favourite was Street Legal.

Of course he's done umpteen tv commercials and is not afraid to laugh at himself -- a nice Canadian trait, btw!!! And kudos to his plastic surgeon!

14. So many great scenes as Denny. I loved it when he and Alan testified at the Supreme Court.

He had a $50 bet with someone that he could get Clarence Thomas to speak and he did! LOL

17. As a writer, let me take note of note of W. Shatner's styles.

1. In the picture above: A slight turning of the head, the uneven shoulders, the sidelong glance.

2. Walking: From my view, Kirk had a light step.

3. The herky-jerky pace of Kirk's dialogue is dynamic and a meme of its own.

4. The chair and the Enterprise bridge design fit together with the crew and the script. Even tho the chair didn't move, in my mind, it did.

19. If anyone has actually read anything on his twitter account

he doesn't just throw barbs, he throws bombs. He is in a perpetual battle with twitter trolls.

And still hawking products, including for his birthday ("2-day celebration" )!

Still amazing to note that he was in this (Judgment at Nuremberg, which was a pretty good film) -

I did got to a Creation Con here a bit over 15 years ago and got his autograph in my copy of one of his co-authored books.

Happy birthday Mr. Shatner and here's to many more!

ETA - don't forget the role that sortof helped him break out of the "Kirk" role and this was well before "Boston Legal" ) -

25. What has always impressed me about Shatner

is that he does have an outsized ego but is also humble, if that makes any sense. He laughs at himself, and seems to have enjoyed his career, his life, his fame and popularity. Also, didnít he win a Tony Award for The Andersonville Trial, as well as be writer/creator of a successful science fiction series?

Hail and Hearty, hereís to you, Bill!
