The cat's out of the bag as far as guns go. They're not going to be taken away or confiscated.
We need to change the narrative.
We need to control the people that have, use, buy, sell and manufacture the guns.
We need to emphazise 'People Control' and de-emphazise 'Gun Control'.
Put the teeth in laws that control the people that have, use, buy, sell & manufacture the guns and the ammo.
Stop calling it 'Gun Control'.

(89,260 posts)we need to stop thinking this is an issue of messaging.
The problem is the system gives more representation to right wing racists so even if most people support something it gets far less support in Congress.

The name isn't the problem. Gun control is actually popular.

(15,318 posts)That's the problem. We can chisel away at the problem when we do have control, but that's about as far as we can get. Someday a future SCOTUS may actually rule on the 2nd amendment that allows for broader change, but until then that's about as much as we get.

(68,632 posts)I say that with great sadness.

(68,632 posts)the grocery store, church and even bars is ridiculous. If folks noticed this guy walking in with a gun and I I am sure some did, there would be nothing they could do as stupid ass states have allowed it.

They already portray us as would-be Stalinists. Undercut that, don't feed it.

(7,530 posts)At least a first time buyer. There should be a firing range test with an instructor and safety instruction. That would at least prevent "impulse" gun buys leading to a shooting. "I need a gun right now" should never be the reason for purchase. A gun owner would need to renew a certificate for gun safety every five years and have a valid one to purchase any firearm.
Instead of restricting "the right to bear arms" restrict "the right to purchase arms".
