Nothing like punishing the customers for the bad business plan.
Too much operating leverage will create that mentality.
So will short term thinking. They were examining losses day by day. And, if these cars weren't being used they could keep them longer when the pandemic subsided.
But, leveraging operating cash in too high a volume leaves them few options but to purge the fleet.
It's their own fault, and their solution is to gouge customers.
Charming.

(37,456 posts)how many cars should each island have? I've been there people get cars at the airport and then park them at resorts. The only transport service on any of the islands is a bus.

(26,004 posts)As a young enlisted man, funds were limited, so I got around by municipal bus. One time, an uncouth lad accompanied me, and he struck up a conversation with a haole lass. He asked where she was from, and she said Hawaii. In his outdoor voice he announced, Wow! Youre the first native Hawaiian Ive met since I got here!, which caused every head within earshot to turn toward the fucking oaf with a big mouth. I quickly told him to STFU.
Later on, I rented a car and took a bunch of buddies for a drive around Oahu. We got some catcalls in a neighborhood on the north shore, and I cant say I blame them.

I very much hope they are still in business, as they were sweet people to deal with.
