(23,287 posts)Never extend your hand to a rabid dog unless you are prepared to club it into submission. You can substitute "republikan" for "rabid dog," and the same principle applies.

(6,449 posts)We need to push back and demand every talking head that parrots this Rethuglican narrative ask this question instead: why is this quest for this mythical unicorn of bipartisanship solely our responsibility? Why is it the proud boy party of No that gets to completely abdicate its responsibility to help govern in a democracy by utterly refusing to do the tiniest act of good faith cooperation for the good of the people, when even their own voters support Democratic proposals? Bipartisanship aint total surrender to the other side which is effectively the result they seek.

(4,244 posts)They won't vote for it in the end, anyway. I'm starting to understand how villains learn to laugh maniacally. It has a certain charm when life starts to loosen its grip.

(15,657 posts)And give them deadlines to meet to present a bipartisan bill with 10 confirmed Republican votes:
End of May for infrastructure, or we go with Bidens bill/Dem majority bill via reconciliation
End of July for voting rights, or we move to abolish filibuster and pass SB1 as written.
If Manchin and Sinema are able to craft a bill with bipartisan support, fine, thats where negotiations begin.
If they cant, then they will be expected to support reconciliation and ending the filibuster, or they will be stripped of all committee assignments, and will receive no DNC funds for their campaigns in 2024.

(528 posts)After all all the time Cocain Mitch was in charge no bill came up unless it was passed with a republican majority. There were NO Democratic bill allowed to see the light of day, they were scrapped or filibustered to death. It didn't matter to the republicans that the bills were to assist the American people, they didn't care about anyone but themselves. For years the republicans have kept the American peoples finances in their hands and done nothing for YOU. Just like these bills they are for the people and the republicans don't care. Joseph Manchin III has voted more, 54% of his votes, with the republican party than with his own party so don't let his BS fool you he is a member of the Democratic Party by name only. And, the Democratic Party has to quit fooling itself and stop saying that they can't run a real member of the Democratic Party in West Virginia because they will lose. If that were true then why is Manchin winning why aren't they voting in a member of the republican party?

(81,467 posts)DEMS! Youre there to serve the issues, problems, and needs of the American people. It does no good to keep reaching out to a fucking BRICK WALL. The brick wall is hard, rough, and has NO feelings, and all youre ever gonna get is scratched-up, scuffed-up hands.

(3,419 posts)In 2008, President W. needed Dem support to pump billions into the bank rescue. Congress (as well as candidate Obama) could have let the GOP "own" the banking meltdown.
Understanding that the rescue was the best of many horrible options, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi whipped enough Democrats to pass the bill in spite of huge opposition from both parties.
They asked for help (arguably) for the good of the country. The difference is that the Democrats voted country over party.

(1,408 posts)They decided to be against everything he wanted to do.
No matter what President Obama said or did to try and work with them by reaching across the aisle.....
All he ever got back was a bloody stump.
We all know what mcturtles plan was, he announced it right out in public for the world to hear.
The Dems need to treat them the way they treated us and when they start crying, bring out the videos, the news paper columns and faux news interviews that show how against America and Americans they were and have been.
