(50,557 posts)Problem is, in the areas where that clan lives there are plenty of people who think theyre just wonderful, and youve got to build a jury out of them.
I sometimes wonder: if the Founding Fathers could have seen into the future, would the Constitution read the way it does?

This asshole and his friends are making an absolute mockery of the law, and have for years and years.
The are all laughing their asses off, which encourages others to do criminal acts also.....
When is this all gonna end?????????

Bundy, who appeared at the Friday night contest without a mask, refused to wear a mask or leave Caldwell High property. He may face criminal charges for trespassing, according to Caldwell Police Department spokesman Joey Hoadley.
A small group of visitors refused to follow the safety requirements, including wearing face coverings, and were denied admittance to the game, district spokeswoman Allison Westfall wrote in an email to parents that was also provided to the Idaho Statesman. They were told they could watch from Brothers Park. Instead, they continued to loiter on the property and became disruptive.
Canyon County dispatch began receiving multiple calls from unidentified callers threatening acts of violence at the game stemming from the dispute over masks, Hoadley clarified Saturday morning, at which time the decision was made to cancel the game for the safety of students and fans.
Bundy was told before the game was stopped that he could cost Emmett a win and potentially a playoff spot.
Some angry parents confronted Bundy as they left the stadium. He was asked if the game stoppage involved him, and he said he thought it did.

I know I would be furious if that maskhole cost my kids a chance of the playoffs. Emmett was winning 35 to zip when the game was stopped.

(19,200 posts)they should deny bail. If he can't behave himself and keeps having contempt for the law, they should deny bail until his trial. I get a feeling the judicial system in that area is tilting slightly Bundy's way.

Then, when he jumps bail, he loses the million bucks.
I'm sure who ever is funding him might get tired of that after awhile.

(7,895 posts)which puts him in the Koch shadow. He's been a very busy boi over the last year organizing a rather large group of followers and sympathizers. He is potentially a dangerous fellow and has plans to expand his influence.
His followers have shown up armed to protest at the judge's home and other places. They ARE dangerous. If this wasn't in Idaho I suspect it would be more seriously resisted by law enforcement and the Feds.

(7,895 posts)He gets them riled up and lets them loose like Trump does. He's just not as obvious a psychopath.
What he has set up is the idea that he's somehow a victim of government oppression. His followers have been lead up the garden path in a manner similar to the MAGA crowd but they have always been headed there. The whole Sovereign Citizen movement is a fake cause got up and paid for by the same fools who brought us the John Birch Society.

(7,895 posts)Ammon is building a new group to coordinate actions across the country:
Peoples Rights seeks to build a nationwide network of right-wing, often antigovernment activists that can be called upon to quickly mobilize against perceived threats, according to the groups website and the descriptions by its national and regional leaders.
********
The groups message, which has been shared across social media platforms, is that the U.S. government poses a great threat to the freedom and liberties of the people, who need to be armed and ready to fend off these supposed tyrannical forces. The group has already staged several protests at government meetings, shutting down at least one proceeding.
********
For Bundy, whose prior acts of extremism have been grounded in his belief that the government is tyrannical, the need to fight it is already here. Peoples Rights is his newest vehicle to do so.
Peoples Rights has approximately 22,000 followers on social media. The group hasnt been linked to specific violent incidents, but Bundys history and the organizations rise in the midst of an increase in right-wing backlash to public health policies as well as uncertainty during a pandemic may feed fears that could erupt.
While Ammon has his own version of Sovereign Citizens thinking he is known to be connected to GOP leaders and legislators in several western states as well as ALEC. Whether we call them Brown Shirts or "Brown Hats" it seems clear he's getting tacit support for his actions and his attitude. It is also very clear that he believes he is connected and protected. He may be right, as well as Right Wing.
Whatever the immediate outcome in Idaho will be, it seems he's off the FBI/DOJ radar for now.

(778 posts)Recently read an article stating that the Oath Keepers got much of their Fame because of that crazy man. They were originally started by someone from Boston and these are the kind of causes they get high on. It also said they claimed to have tens of thousands of followers, but in reality it's only about five thousand. Sorry, I kind of ended up changing the subject. But let's watch because they might intervene for him.

(4,552 posts)Bundy goes on trial and all it takes is one person on the jury to agree with his wild interpretations of law and he walks.
The thing to remember is that we can do the same thing if they say make abortion illegal. It is why Prohibition failed.
Jury nullification is the citizens final word. All law can be nullified by juries. This is why plea deals are popular with prosecutors.
The trials of the treasonous terrorists who attacked our capital will be interesting. It only takes one repuke on the jury.
