The most frightening thing about the current scenario in the US

is that ReTHUGs have no problem overthrowing the elected executive. Further they are against gun control for one reason - they are facilitating the sale of weapons to their goons.

The insurrectionists must be sent to prison (including the big fish) or things will get worse.
There must be serious consequences.

need to be arrested, convicted, and dealt with harshly. But it will take some dedicated effort to nail them with solid evidence because these leaders are smooth at covering their trail, or leaving no concrete trail. People can be convicted on circumstantial evidence, though, if the evidence and the prosecutor are good.

in the Bundy grazing land grab in NV 8 years or so ago. Oathkeepers backed the feds down with an armed presence. Similar thing with the Malheur Wildlife Refuge occupation a couple years after, though there was the very short shootout when the feds surprised the group of them that were traveling to a meeting elsewhere. Maybe the Feds should have stormed the occupied refuge headquarters instead of hoping for a peaceful solution. Avoiding armed conflict in order to appease and preserve peace has worked more to embolden them and seemingly just postpone the conflict till later. Arrest and try the instigators behind the Capitol storming or we will surely suffer something worse down the road.

Proud Boys chairman Enrique Tarrio posted photos taken inside the White House gates on the conservative platform Parler, adding that he had received a “last minute invite to an undisclosed location.”

“He was on a public White House Christmas tour,” White House spokesman Judd Deere said when asked about Tarrio’s suggestion he was invited. “He did not have a meeting with the president, nor did the White House invite him.”

NY's 1911 Sullivan Law, a may-issue handgun licensing scheme, was enacted by corrupt Tammany Hall politicians to make sure that only their goons would be armed. The current may-issue criteria in NYC give preference to celebrities and people who transport large amounts of cash or jewelry. Apparently, their lives are more important than those of the hoi polloi.

California's Mulford Act, banning open carry, was drafted in response the Black Panthers engaging in armed patrols of the city of Oakland. The Panthers responded by staging an open-carry protest at the state capitol, but the Act was subsequently passed with "urgency." Ronald Reagan was Governor of California at the time. The Mulford Act is still in effect.

They took over several cities in the state this way, mostly majority-Black cities, including, IIRC, Benton Harbor and St. Joseph. I want to say Flint but I'm not sure they got that one. The GOP has left mainstream conservative voters to hang in the wind or treats them as a given source of votes who have no alternatives. While I am sure there are many who think of themselves as Republican in a conventional sense, as of the last poll they are a large minority within the party and have no real voice in it or in government at any level.

For the Press to treat the party as representative of anyone except their RW paying customers is dishonest, and the MSM know it is, even if they do have groceries to sell with it.

Remember that GOP Congresswoman who heard Drumpf and McCarthy? Her statement got read into the record. It’d have been a whole lot more effective to have it run on TV for a few days and for ever.

Washington (CNN)In an expletive-laced phone call with House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy while the US Capitol was under attack, then-President Donald Trump said the rioters cared more about the election results than McCarthy did.

"Well, Kevin, I guess these people are more upset about the election than you are," Trump said, according to lawmakers who were briefed on the call afterward by McCarthy.

McCarthy insisted that the rioters were Trump's supporters and begged Trump to call them off.

Trump's comment set off what Republican lawmakers familiar with the call described as a shouting match between the two men. A furious McCarthy told the then-President the rioters were breaking into his office through the windows, and asked Trump, "Who the f--k do you think you are talking to?" according to a Republican lawmaker familiar with the call.
