Mitt 'Let Detroit Go Bankrupt' Romney: President Obama laid off autoworkers

&feature=player_embedded

Mitt Romney, still refusing to directly address questions about his record at Bain, tries to refocus the conversation on President Obama:
"In the general election, I'll be pointing out that the president took the reins of General Motors and Chrysler, closed factories, closed dealerships, laid off thousands and thousands of workers. He did it to try to save the business," Romney said on CBS's "This Morning."

At least Romney acknowledges that President Obama was trying—successfully—to save the American auto industry. But he'd probably like people to forget his proposal for Detroit: to let it go bankrupt.

Fortunately, President Obama didn't follow Mitt Romney's recommendation. But that hasn't stopped Romney from trying to say that what President Obama did with the auto industry is exactly the same thing he did at Bain:

The dealership closings were decided by a consensus within the boardroom and was lauded by industry analysts as an important move to save the company going into the 21st century. Obama's "car czar" had nothing to do with that.

The only job cut made by Obama's bailout task force was that of GM CEO Battenburg, the man at the helm when GM began it's death spiral. That move was also widely approved by people who know the business.

Obama saved the jobs of thousands by lending the company govt money and differed starkly from Romney's stated plan to "let GM rot on the vine" Romney had an absurd vision that GM could survive total bankuptcy and reform under new investors that didn't exist on this planet or any other. GM couldn't even find a buyer for Hummer, let alone the entire company.

Romney's only goal, which he clearly stated, was to rid the company of it's union membership and what he termed "legacy costs". I'm a "legacy cost". I'm a GM retireee who would have been told under Mitt Romney's plan to begin seeking my second career. Romney, like so many republicans live by the motto: "If you don't work, you don't eat", themselves excluded of course.

Thanks to president Obama, the Lordstown plant near here is now working three shifts of decent paying jobs building the award winning Chevy Cobalt, and retirees like myself can enjoy some level of dignity in our autumn years.

Mitt Romney, go fuck yourself.
I and my UAW bretheren will see you at the voting booth in November.
