Two tiny terriers chase very large bear out of California home

The brown bear thought he'd struck gold: an open door, an empty kitchen and a fridge stocked with food.

The shaggy burglar took his time, even stopping for a drink from a fancy water feature on his stroll into the Pasadena home.

Little did he know what awaited him: The wrath of Mei Mei and Squirt.

The two tiny terriers rose to the moment as if their lives, and kibble, depended on it.

First Mei Mei and then Squirt slid their little furry souls across the kitchen tiles, launching themselves up the garden steps, bombarding the beast with barks until he fled. The young brown bear was so shaken by the might of the doggy duo he peed on the steps as he made his leave.

Terrier (from the French word terrier [tɛʁje], meaning "burrow&quot is a type of dog originally bred to hunt vermin.[1][2][3] A terrier is a dog of any one of many breeds or landraces of the terrier type, which are typically small, wiry, game, and fearless.[4] Terrier breeds vary greatly in size from just 1 kg (2 lb) to over 32 kg (71 lb) and are usually categorized by size or function. There are five different groups of Terrier, with each group having different shapes and sizes.

Most terrier breeds were refined from the older purpose-bred dogs.

The gameness of the early hunting terriers was exploited by using them in sporting contests. Initially, terriers competed in events such as clearing a pit of rats. The dog that was fastest in killing all the rats won. In the eighteenth century some terriers were crossed with hounds to improve their hunting, and some with fighting dog breeds to "intensify tenacity and increase courage".[5] Some of the crosses with fighting dogs, bull and terrier crosses, were used in the blood sport of dog-fighting. Modern pet breeds such as the Miniature Bull Terrier are listed by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) under Bull type terriers.[6]

especially the little yapping ones, I might have guessed that the name terrier meant "little critters that terrorize."

Girl terrier chews everything then looks so cute she never disciplines her at all. She has gone through 5 remotes, kitchen towels, all kinds of shoes, and when she buys stuffed dog toys for her and the beagle she rips hers up then steals and rips her brothers.

She is cute but glad not my dog!

he can do some damage.

He cornered a raccoon one night. The raccoon put up a good fight. My dog was getting scratched up pretty good. Raccoon go for the face and eyes. Then, all of a sudden, it was like my dog went in for the kill. He had the raccoon by the throat.
These little Frenchies have a big, strong jaw. My dog shook it a couple of times, and it got loose. The coon got under a fence, and I was able to stop my dog from following it. He drew blood from that raccoon. It was all over his face.

To be fair, that really was not a "very large" bear. As bears go, I'd say it was a rather small and scrawny one. But it was definitely much larger than both of those dogs put together, so I give them full points for courage and ferocity!

Well played, puppers!
