Liz Cheney just tweeted: The 2020 presidential election was not stolen.

This is 100% true and many people in power who know better are exploiting Republicans voters to boost *their* own power and influence - and it's causing real damage.

The 2020 presidential election was not stolen. Anyone who claims it was is spreading THE BIG LIE, turning their back on the rule of law, and poisoning our democratic system.

And they will make a point (and an example, if they can) of KEEPING her in that seat, and they will fire off as many big guns as they need to..they will WRECK any right-side trumpcult primary challenger. Remember, these are lifetime republican campaign operatives and they know what they're doing. They will bring the Sharp Knives, and will absolutely use them to fuck them some rats.

For what it's worth, I'm glad shes not a cultist. I AM pissed that the iteration of the republican party were forced to defend now, is Bush/Iraq2.

take a number of Republicans with her.

Her views and those of McCarthy and the Trumpers are seriously incompatible. There is no way that the two factions can compromise. Cheney is making an "ideological" stand of sorts. She's saying that the truth of the election matters, with no equivocations.

Cheney really has no other choice, now that she made her position very clear by a public declaration. When Cheney makes her break and takes several GOPers with her, the GOP is doomed to chronic election losses on a national scale, and those losses will eventually "trickle down" to state legislatures and municipalities.

In a way, Trump hastened the demise of the GOP. He exposed the GOP as a fascist, white supremacy organization. Liz would rather muffle that noise and blanket the GOP's agenda with high-minded "principles." IOW, Cheney knows the value of euphemisms and PR. This drama is just beginning.

That said, while skeptical, I wish her success for the sake of the country and so once the breakaway party is a success I can go back to despising her.

If true, let's be 100 percent clear about what's happening. You have to be a liar to be in good standing with the leadership of the GOP.

It's that damn simple.

Talk about strange times!

The fact that I, a liberal Democrat, supports the current efforts of a former Neo-con and the daughter of Darth Vader is strange indeed. But there you go, two Republicans who are fighting within the Crazy Pants Party (though I think Kristol left the Republican Party) gain my salute.

Breathtaking.

Strange times make for strange bedfellows in the war against autocracy and fascism.

May 2021

when she says "it's causing real damage" she's vague about the damage, even if she's not equivocating.

I can't imagine what Republican issues she'll run on, either, other than anti-Trumpism. Because the way I read the 74 million who voted? They're way past Republican conservative values -- so are the autocratic oligarchy of dark money donors -- and there seems to be no new constructive value platform for her to run on.

I'll admit she wasn't on my radar before last year, so maybe she said something supportive to a smaller audience, I don't know. Since she's been on the national stage, I've never heard her say anything to support Chump. It means she has her own campaign financing lined up, because she won't get anything from the national Repukes.

Not that I care one way or the other, but I admire her courage.

The Lincoln Project et al. jumped in to fight them. Republicans one and all. They didn't necessarily become Democrats to rise up against fascism. They simply temporarily shed their Republican skin and fought as Americans. I see Liz Cheney in the same light. Within her own ranks she sees the cancer growing and is wise to call it out, not as a Republican but as an American. That's what I find comforting in what she has just tweeted. But unlike the LP, though, she's in office, and they aren't. She will be battling the monster in situ. We may be watching the inculcation of a Republican counterattack within its own architecture, and that's something completely different. As Dems, it will be impossible for us to support her internal battle with the fascists, but we should. Not as Dems, but as Americans. That is the total scope of our support. This demon must be exorcised or we're toast, maybe not today, but someday.
