RI Governor Cancels Event Connected With Trump Ally

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/ri-governor-cancels-event-connected-with-trump-ally/ar-BB1gAeWd?ocid=hplocalnews

The event was a fundraiser, that was to be cohosted by Gerald Zarrella, the co-chair of the former president's 2020 campaign, The Public's Radio reported. In a statement, McKee said he became aware of the details of the event on Friday afternoon and requested it be canceled.

"I do not want to be associated with Donald Trump in any way, shape, or form," McKee said. "I do not like Trump…he is dishonest, divisive, and his 'Big Lie' is a threat to our democracy. There is no place for a Trump spokesperson to cohost any event I am involved in."

I'm liking our new Governor more by the day.

"Not only is McKee weak, and now divisive, but he is also blatantly inconsistent," the statement read in part. "He doesn’t want a vocal Trump supporter hosting a fundraiser, yet for his inauguration he had Father Marciano give a benediction. Father Marciano told his parishioners in 2016 that voting for Clinton would put their soul in danger. So it's ok for Father Marciano to give the benediction at your inauguration, but it's wrong for you to attend an event hosted by Zarrella? You are not making any sense Governor McKee."

It's not that I support Trump, or his supporters, but at some point this becomes a "little too much a little late". You have to distance yourself BEFORE everyone else knows what's going on, not after everyone figures it out.

whatever a priest told his parishioners is a nice jab, but the comparison to Trump & Co. is weak.

In the larger political scheme of things, it won't move the needle much.

It's like, if the mayor of San Jose made the same pronouncement.

Unfortunately he got the office the only way he could. Gina moving on.

The guy has gotten the endorsement of RI Right to Life in every race he's ever been in.

Went to Assumption College, at least.

But so was Gina and they never endorsed her. She stood with Planned Parenthood.

The Rhode Island Republican Party believes Gov. Dan McKee, in effect, labeled them "deplorables" when he called off a fundraiser at the Exeter farm of Gerald Zarrella, the co-chairman of the Trump's 2020 Rhode Island campaign.
