Biden tours Ford facility in Michigan as protests erupt over Gaza-Israeli conflict

As Joe Biden toured a Ford Motor Company facility to highlight his push for more electric vehicles on Tuesday, protests erupted in parts of Michigan over the escalating clashes between Israelis and Palestinians.

Biden toured Ford Motor Co Rouge electric vehicle center to tout part of his American Jobs Plan, which incentivizes Americans to use electric vehicles and proposes building a national network of charging stations.

Biden’s visit to the plant here in Dearborn, Michigan, was no coincidence. The state and region have deep roots in the American auto industry and would be one of the primary locations for production of a new era of electric vehicles. Biden’s visit also came ahead of Ford rolling out an electric version of its F150 pickup truck, one of the company’s most iconic products.

“I just got a tour of a groundbreaking electric vehicle center here alongside UAW workers,” Biden said at the Rouge center. “They showed me the technology they’re using to build the fully electric F150 … The future of the auto industry is electric. There’s no turning back.”

Biden says Ford’s new electric pickup will help U.S. compete with China, takes one for a test drive

DEARBORN, Mich. —President Biden used the advent of an American-made electric pickup truck to pitch his $2.3 trillion infrastructure package on Tuesday, arguing that the United States needs to make up ground against Chinese auto manufacturers with a jump on the electric vehicle market.

Biden got a sneak peek at the Ford F-150 Lightning, an electric version of the iconic pickup and a marquee product for Ford Motor Co. and its union workforce.

“The future of the auto industry is electric. There’s no turning back,” Biden said at the historic Rouge plant, where he also got a chance to test-drive the truck on a track. He floored it.

“This sucker’s quick!” he told reporters.

with many of those from the Middle-East for over 30 years and never saw anything erupt. I even had a friend that was a Palestinian Christian that got along with every one.

F150 electruc truck - that is better than the original gas truck. I was on the edge of my seat. This is to be unveiled tomorrow. The chief engineer is a woman, Linda Zhang. This is big. Will be big in moving the country toward electric vehicles and climate change.

I'm very excited about this truck and what Ford is going to come out with. Mind you fuel costs and long term maintenance on these things will be orders of magnitude cheaper. Breaks won't need to be changed for 200-300k miles. No oil changes. No tuning. And fuel costs are half or more what gasoline costs (when you do the math on it, obviously it is going to be tied to local electricity prices, but the argument is pretty clear, takes a lot of electricity to refine gas, with less gas needing to be refined, that's electricity that can power electrics).

"No. you can’t. Not unless you get in front of the car as I step on it."
