It just gets freaking old... Fraternity deaths.
On the news tonight, they talked about the trial of seven fraternity brothers in the death of an incoming initiate. These people are old enough and smart enough to know the history of such deaths. More pressure should be put up on the national fraternities for not condemning it enough.
Just my rant about needless deaths

(47,184 posts)I once worked in a college counseling center, and as the junior clinician, had the job of calling the parents of boys in a frat who were taken to the hospital for alcohol poisoning, often in serious condition.
It made me so angry I could spit. I pleaded with the university to take action, but they sat on their hands and seemed to think "boys will be boys."

(17,576 posts)The are too cool, too rich, too well dressed to get into trouble. Whenever they kill one of their own, the entire Fraternity should be banned from campuses permanently as well as holding all of those present criminally responsible for the deaths under the RICO laws. That would put the Kibosh on deadly hazing. When half of the Frat goes to prison on the RICO act, the rest of the Greeks on campus would get the message.
And then you have the ever-present, Spring Breakers, coming up with creative ways to end their young lives, that would be a harder issue to handle.

Funny thing on frats: the school allowed frats to have 2 nonmembers on their basketball team for campus tournaments.
I had 5 frats ask me all 3 years I was there. I played with the frat that had the least objectionable people. Never went to the after game parties, though.

(54,770 posts)ones in the fraternity files. Youd hear half the class groan when they realized they studied the wrong stuff.
Remember when I first got on campus and walked down fraternity row. Had never seen so many drunks and large confederate flags hanging from the the front porch columns (this was a few years after Civil Rights Act). Knew it wasnt for me.
That good ole boy network did work for a lot of folks, though.
