I worry about what will happen when the eviction moratorium ends on June 30 and renters will be pressed to pay up all the rent they owe. I hope Biden's infusion of some cash to families will soften the blow somewhat.

(19,118 posts)We don't live in the land of free rent indefinitely. Evictions happen regularly across the country, hopefully those that are facing eviction have saved some money up and are able to find a new place quickly.

(2,605 posts)They have actually already evicted some tenants, but those were who were not smart enough to fill out the federal paperwork and refused to agree to some kind of plan to become current with rent or had a history of numerous late payments prior to the pandemic.

For the ones evicted, the pain doesn't stop there, many will not be able to find new landlords with eviction on their records. They will also be hounded for the back rent for the next seven years, or longer for those who do not understand the system. Their credit rating will be wrecked for the foreseeable future. It will also work against them when they apply for jobs; employers do not like people with bad credit. It is going to be a big mess with a lot of innocent people hurt, and a lot of kids living in cars. It is life in a capitalist society where the big dogs eat the little dogs.
Most of us will avert our eyes, thank God it is not us, and go about our daily lives.

(2,957 posts)I understand that a lot of people were making more money than they made working, and then there's the stimulus. Landlords need to make a living too, they can't just let everyone live there for free indefinitely. If people weren't wise with their unemployment and stimulus I don't know what to say.
