I have a mantra; you can be arrogant or you can be stupid but you can't me both. I can live with stupid people if they aren't so sure of themselves that they actively try to teach you their stupidity. I can also live with arrogant people if they have the goods to back it up.
What kills me about these fucking covid deniers is that they are not only stupid but that they feel the need to get in your face about it.
I was at a project site walkthrough with one of my clients today. Where the project adjoins some residential property, the owners came out to find out what was going on. We politely told them what was proposed. The only thing they cared about was "why are you wearing masks". At first the woman was trying to be polite saying that it wasn't necessary outdoors. We know that but sometimes we do just to make the public and each other feel better. But the man has to chime in and start ranting about no need for masks anywhere, it was always nonsense and overblown, yada yada with the typical bullshit.
Mind you, this particular project is behind schedule because the surveyor died from covid while we were waiting for him to get the field measurements made. His widow is currently shutting down his company and trying to put her life back together.
I wanted so badly to tell this guy what I thought but I figured that would be bad form in front of a client. Even if the client approved, it could go badly considering the jackass is a resident of the City where my client is employed.
Sucks to be professional sometimes when I just want to speak my mind.
Anyway, it just shocks me that these people feel the need to be so aggressive about their stupidity. Why do they care if we wear masks? Geez I am so done with these assholes.

Too bad you had to be polite.

(153,160 posts)the goal was always to contain the virus, not to stop masking.....it's crazy how many people do not seem to understand this

I smiled through my mask at the others wearing them.

(35,662 posts)The closest one to me is an old style hardware store run by a guy who always used to have Rush Limbaugh piped throughout the store. When I complained, he said, "I play all points of view." Not once did I ever hear anybody but Rush Limbaugh.
In our house, we refer to the place as Right Wing Hardware. Its real name is "Main Street Hardware."
I only use the place for emergencies, preferring to spend my hardware store dollars at another place on the other side of town.
I will hand it to him, though, he wore a mask throughout the pandemic.

(14,015 posts)who was unknown to me, was in a Chicago area bookshop. The store owner was laughing at the offensive remarks, and I left, telling him it was a poor business decision to have an obnoxious blowhard on the radio.

But in the end, she is just as aggressively idiotic as this asshat was.

Talking to a friend of mine earlier. He was telling me about going to a client's place, where the manager is an in-your-face trumper, and rails at him because he wears a mask. Last week, he thought something was wrong with her because she was wearing a mask, and staying 20 ft away from him, not saying a word. He asked her what was wrong as he was heading back out. She said--I have to protect myself from vaccination molecules. I know you've been vaccinated, and I can't be around you because I might inhale those molecules.
He said, one of the few times he's been completely speechless.
Skittles
(153,160 posts)but he is masking now because......vaccinated people may give it to him

(5,722 posts)1. Find a picture of God Emperor Donald on that day he wore a mask.
2. Print multiple wallet-size copies. Add text on back if you want to be fancy. Example: "Pass or Fail?"
3. Carry at all times; hand out to incelrectionists whenever challenged.

Keep your cool and piss the others off.

(8,914 posts)CDC guidelines are that masks are unnecessary outdoors, if you are FULLY vaccinated! People seem to forget that second part.
By the sounds of if, I'd be willing to bet neither has been vaccinated.
Second I would have told them is that we as people need food to survive. Without food we starve and would eventually die.
Covid need people to survive. The only way to starve covid is to use masks and get vaccinated.
If you do neither, Covid will find those people, because it need people to survive.
If we can't fully starve Covid, it will eventually find these people you were dealing with.

(10,188 posts)I usually just read the synopsis and dont bother watching, he sends some pretty crazy shit. Todays was saying the the vaccines are designed to destroy your immunity to further Covid infections and they will introduce a new variety that will kill most of the people who have been vaccinated. I just dont get these people that see worldwide conspiracies. Im sure there are some things that are done that we dont know about but I just dont believe you could get people all over the world to work together to some nefarious end.
Moostache
(9,895 posts)1) A multinational conspiracy was launched to deceive the population of the world into accepting a vaccine that was really a trojan-horse fake out that will render them susceptible to a SECOND, "real" virus that will kill them off.
2) A novel coronavirus broke into the population of China and became the worst pandemic in 100 years. Companies that had been working on mRNA vaccines were allowed to prioritize efforts to get vaccines made and delivered to SAVE lives and end the outbreak.
If you encounter anyone who says "1)", turn away and never engage that moron again.

(111,255 posts)Responses, most to least appropriate:
Because we think it's still a good idea.
Because the epidemic isn't over yet.
Because we like the way they look.
None of your business.
Because I can skip shaving/half the makeup and put the money toward a yacht.
Because IU just knocked over a bank and don't want to be recognized.
So idiots like you can't tell when I'm sticking my tongue out at you.
I can think of lots more, but you get the idea.

(2,809 posts)On his Fox Noise program actually encouraged the idiots to start harassing people wearing masks.
Ever since then we've had one hell of a time getting local RWNJ's to comply--- in the hospital!!!!
I can't be specific on social media-- but some have gotten physically combative about it.
In a convenience store one 'Duck Die Nasty" looking creep started in about my mask wear in the store.
As though it wasn't fairly obvious wearing my scrubs after work, I had to spell it out for him:
"I work at the hospital. If I'm seen in an enclosed public space without a mask I can say hello to my walking papers tomorrow".
"Oh".
