It doesn't embed but this Ted talk video is 20 minutes well spent. In fact, I will be spending another 40 minutes with it at some point because it is so informationally dense.
For those who hate blind links, it is a discussion by Paddy Ashdown about the alignments of global power. It contains many observations, some obvious and many not so obvious, at least to me. It is impossible for me to do it justice in a few paragraphs.
It also provides some framework within which the global frustrations with the elite can be viewed.
I would love to hear your opinions about this talk and possibly some ideas of how we can move into the new era more safely.

(26,449 posts)This is not conspiracy theory or crazy talk. It is a scholarly talk by an expert in global power structures.
Plus posts don't get moved anymore.

Ashdown makes an excellent case about power and information, the rule of law and democracy. I especially like his observations about human and societal inter-connectedness and his ideas about collective action for change.
Not many fellows can talk off the top of their heads like Paddy Ashdown. Fewer still tell the truth when they do. All of them I know are Liberal Democrats.

(26,449 posts)The question now seems to be can we the people of earth build a better network than the 1%?
It is clear from other sources the idea seems to be to return us to a feudalistic existence.
I'm always pleased to hear from you.

(7,231 posts)but multi-polar power means that we need to define our common interests in moral ways. The alternative is ruthless, immoral, pursuit of short-term interests.

Other than OWS, how can we do that?
