(3,934 posts)And so should anyone who has any sense. Katie Porter knows what she's talking about.
She's an extremely smart woman. Katie Porter graduated from Yale University and Harvard Law School and has taught law at several universities, including the University of California, Irvine, William S. Boyd School of Law, and the University of Iowa.
I'll follow Katie Porter's endorsements, thank you. And, I will support and donate to them because I trust her judgment in these matters.

(15,325 posts)I've donated to Shontel Brown & it's good to see the rest of the loyal Democrats who not only support out President & Vice President, but who work to raise their own campaign cash.
None of these rely on Big Money Out-of-State Political PACS & a high profile PR Group, nor a built in Polling Co & the big money that it takes to hire them.
The names on the list are true grassroots funded campaigns.
Appreciate this wonderful long list of worthy candidates, loyal Democrats to choose from.
OH-11 Belongs to the Democrat whose loyalty to the Party has never wavered.

Nina Turner, a co-chair of the Sanders campaign, told me she has no appetite for the choice she faces: Its like saying to somebody, You have a bowl of shit in front of you, and all youve got to do is eat half of it instead of the whole thing. Its still shit.

A true, lifelong, loyal, supportive, and accomplished Ohio Democrat. She SUPPORTS President Biden, doesn't call him a "half bowl of shit" as Turner did. ( https://coolcleveland.com/2020/07/commentary-nina-turner-and-fecal-matter-a-bridge-too-far/ )
BTW, that "35% point lead over her closest competitor in the primary" is from a poll commissioned and financed by Nina Turner herself!

(12,046 posts)...then pulled similar shit 4 years later with Biden after the primaries were wrapped up. I'm all about supporting progressives and I also feel that there is a place under the Democratic tent for a wide ideological spectrum from AOC to Jon Tester and there is room for disagreement. Too often on DU I see progressives criticized for not falling in lockstep on controversial issues even 2 years out from any election, but Nina Turner has not been on our side at times when unity has mattered most.
murielm99
(32,988 posts)It sums up good reasons for not supporting Turner without being nasty or divisive.

(3,934 posts)I have immense respect for Katie Porter's intellect and political acumen. She is an extremely intelligent woman and a force to be reckoned with in the House. She's a very popular and well-known Democrat who uses her whiteboard and her knowledge of the issues to make corporate fools tremble in fear when they testify in the House.
I trust her. I trust her judgment. I trust her political instincts. I have no qualms about following her advice on which candidates to support.
She was smart enough to somehow become the first Democratic Congressperson to ever be elected in California District 45, which is an extremely conservative, right-leaning and Republican-friendly district that is "behind the Orange Curtain" in Orange County, CA. Orange County is well-known for being one of the most conservative, anti-Democratic, and "red" areas within the state of California. And somehow she managed to do this without accepting any corporate PAC money and while raising three children as a single mother.
She is also a distinguished law professor. Katie Porter graduated from Yale University and Harvard Law School and has taught law at several universities, including the University of California, Irvine, William S. Boyd School of Law, and the University of Iowa.
So...maybe you trust your own judgment better than you do Katie Porter's. Maybe you actually think you're smarter than she is. I don't. I think she knows who to endorse and what to do politically way more than I do. I think she's much smarter than I am. I'm going to go with what she says to do here. I'm going to support Nina Turner. And in fact, I just sent another donation to Nina Turner that was dedicated to all of the disingenuous attacks she receives here on DU. So, thank you for that encouragement. I expect her to win. Peace and love.

(71,542 posts)not a Democrat. She is a member of the People's Party. Thus no donation for her. And considering her lack of respect for and support for our 2016 and 2018 nominees, she is a very bad choice. I live in Ohio and will be working to get the word out about who Ms. Turner is in regard to her political party and why she is the wrong choice for Ohio 11. She would only get my vote in a general election, but I doubt she will be running. I fear we could lose the seat if she does run in the General. She is not well-liked here in Ohio.

(29,077 posts)Politics depends on building coalitions, compromising like always when working with other people. Getting legislation passed even if it "isn't good enough" at the time because you have to have the votes and Republicans are 100% obstructionist and Democrats have no large majorities. That's the job. This is not the goal of Justice Democrats/The People's Party. It's Us vs Them and the Them aren't Republicans.
Strange how what some politicians say last year, three weeks ago is suddenly "ancient history" "the distant past" while Democrats are regularly blamed for things that happened decades ago that wasn't their fault.
Everyone needs to earn the votes, have feet held to the fire like what's always said about Democrats.

(60,182 posts)We'd be jumping all over a similar post requesting money for Joe Manchin, and at least he declares himself to be a Democrat, still votes with us most of the time, and is not known for trashing other Democrats. I have a personal friend in the Senate whom the Republicans would LOVE to dislodge next year, (his name is Kelly, not Manchin) and while I make no bones about my support for him, the last thing I would do is make a rah-rah-lookit-me post exhorting the board to send him money.
