‘Turn the lights out’ on democracy if Kyrsten Sinema doesn’t come around on the filibuster: David Plouffe

Obama 2008 campaign manager David Plouffe called out Sen. Kyrsten Sinema on MSNBC on Thursday evening as the Arizona Democrat is increasingly isolated from her own party.

Serwer wrote "Republicans are not blocking a bipartisan January 6 commission because they fear Trump, or because they want to "move on" from 2020. They are blocking a January 6 commission because they agree with the underlying ideological claim of the rioters, which is that Democratic electoral victories should not be recognized."

This is maddening and dangerous that they continue to stall on critical agenda to get the economy back up, create Americans jobs & repair/rebuild, install critical infrastructure, and THEN take sides w the party of seditionists and abandon the fight for democracy.

I'm sorry but I have to say this; the fact that Manchin and Sinema are opposed to breaking the filibuster to get S1 passed should not be used as an excuse for Chuck Schumer and his fellow Senators to do nothing. Do something to put pressure on them, keep bringing bills up for votes, force them to vote No over and over again until their constituents put pressure on them.

Meanwhile more voter suppression bills are being passed in the states. Do something.

I wish Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer could trade places for 6 months.

because on some levels her job is easier. House members rarely have independent profiles in the way senators do. They are very dependent upon the national party for fundraising and branding in ways that senators just aren't. Manchin and Sinema are capable of raising money on their own in a way that all but a literal handful of House members can only dream of being. Add in the fact that Manchin is literally the only person who can win statewide in WV and he has amazing power with us having no real pressure point. Sinema is probably less powerful than he is in those regards, she could be defeated in a primary and have the person who defeated her able to win a general election.

Particularly Manchin. It's why they elected him.

We don't really care about their constituents except when they happen to agree with us. We also have a very poor understanding of WV politics and how it's even possible to hold a seat there in the first place.

"In West Virginia, 59 percent of respondents said that Manchin’s pledge not to weaken or eliminate the filibuster makes them more likely to vote for him the next time he’s on the ballot in 2024. More than a quarter of respondents — 28 percent — said that Manchin’s vow makes them “much more likely” to back his reelection."
