DC Comics Says Batman Can't Go Down On Catwoman Since 'Heroes Don't Do That' ((NSFW))

On Monday, Twitter was aroused by quite the juicy tidbit buried in a Variety piece about a popular superhero series

Apparently, Batman absolutely cannot perform oral sex on Catwoman in the DC Entertainment-HBO Max adult animated series “Harley Quinn.”

Justin Halpern, a co-creator and executive producer of the highly graphic series, told the magazine:

In this third season of ‘Harley’ we had a moment where Batman was going down on Catwoman. And DC was like, ‘You can’t do that. You absolutely cannot do that.’ They’re like, ‘Heroes don’t do that.’ So, we said, ‘Are you saying heroes are just selfish lovers?’ They were like, ‘No, it’s that we sell consumer toys for heroes. It’s hard to sell a toy if Batman is also going down on someone.’

While DC might want to consider selling another kind of toy if Batman proves to be such a staunch supporter of female pleasure, Halpern and his co-creator Patrick Schumacker also told Variety that DC has been pretty supportive of their show’s penchant for pushing the envelope.

18. I guess that I am an Incel, because I am totally opposed to using

historical comics characters in anything that is remotely sexual (except for a kiss, which I saw as a kid in Spider-Man and Sargent Rock stories). Use comic characters that were developed in porn, or develop new comic characters that do adult things like oral sex. To me it shows a gross lack of creativity on the part of the developers to use characters that simply were not created for what they are trying to use them for.

25. Okay, I was harsh, but it is an adult cartoon, even though it's using a childhood favorite.

The point is that if the (R-rated) show is bringing Batman/Bruce Wayne into an adult relationship situation, be it with Rachel Dawes, Catwoman, or any other female that showed up in the comics, when they go beyond the chaste kissing and hugging that may be acceptable in the comic books, a "good guy" should be enough of an adult to be concerned about giving his partner just as good a time as he was getting.

Whether you approve of sexual situations in the series or not. If they're there, they should meet the adult attitude the hero has been constructed to represent.

I'm tired of vaguely rapey R-rated sex scenes where it's all about the guy and the woman might as well be a blow-up doll. Even when she plays a major character in the series.

16. I just don't like the idea of historical comic figures doing what porn actors do.

Use cartoon characters that were developed in porn. Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, The Flash, Doctor Strange, The Hulk, The Submariner, Sargent Rock were basically my entire reading material during the summer when I was a kid, being that we didn’t have mobile bookmobiles then for poor kids and the one library was a hike away. For $0.10, I could be transported to a child wonderland. I would not want to see kids today lose that innocence with adult sexual behavior getting associated with the characters - a kiss while embracing is one thing, going down on a vagina of giving simulated head is an entirely different matter and should not be associated with comics, IMO.

If there are adults that still avidly read comics, I suggest that maybe they keep their adult propensities out of the comics.
