(182,884 posts)1. Looking for info on possible donations or contacts with Howard Hughes?
Thats one of the theories Ive read over the years. Hughes was a Republican bit hed lent money to Nixons brother and there was some concern that he was hedging his bets through donations or talking to the Dems. At least thats the story as Ive heard it.

(16,858 posts)2. I remember asking my dad about Watergate.
We would watch the news at my grandparents' house most evenings and everybody had to be quiet while Walter Cronkite was on. When I asked about Watergate and the Vietnam War, the reply was always the same, "you wouldn't understand." I was born in 1969, so I guess they were right. But that stuff back then was child's play compared to what we have now.

(14,946 posts)3. "All The President's Men" is a really good movie (about Watergate)
and yes - the former guy, and his Congressional, and other supporters put Nixon & Co rather to shame.

(14,628 posts)4. I also like the 2017 movie
Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House even though Liam Neeson's accent is a little silly at times. It tells the story from the persepctive of "Deep Throat."
It provides details about how Nixon's advisors tried to find a way to get rid of FBI Director J Edgar Hoover to stop an investigation. Then Hoover suddenly died and Nixon installed an acting FBI Director (his puppet, Pat Gray.) Felt fought to keep Gray out of the loop while the FBI investigation continued. Felt knew that Gray would tell Nixon everything.
Boy, did history repeat itself . . .
