Representative Madison Cawthorn has defended the Second Amendment and said it enables U.S. citizens to overthrow the federal government if it becomes tyrannical.
Cawthorn, a Republican who represents North Carolina's 11th congressional district, spoke to Newsmax's Chris Salcedo on Wednesday about gun rights and the purpose of the amendment.
The 25-year-old is currently the youngest member of the House of Representatives and the first to be born in the 1990s. He told Salcedo American citizens could successfully defeat the government if it became necessary, citing the Viet Cong.
Salcedo asked Cawthorn about David Chipman, who is President Joe Biden's nominee to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

Sounds like Cawthorn doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground when it comes to history.

(18,774 posts)Knows there was a war in the country now known as Vietnam and that there was a group called the Viet Cong. The knowledge stops there.

(37,162 posts)And frankly, I am done with right wingers treating us as if we are foreign invaders.
My understanding of the Vietnam War is that the Viet Cong were bled dry after the Tet Offensive, and that most significant combat after that was done by the NVA.
But, I also wouldn't claim to be an expert either.

(18,774 posts)Tet was a devastating defeat for the VC from which they never recovered. Most "Viet Cong" actions afterwards were carried out by NVA soldiers acting as VC.

(12,449 posts)you would be absolutely correct, after Tet, the VC were pretty much done and the NVA had to send more troops into the south to take over what the VC could no longer do.

(821 posts)Maddie must mean in a situation where a candidate won the popular vote by seven million and the Electoral College by over 70 EVs and the lose with his supporters overturn the election. That would be tyranny. Fortunately, the courts slapped that crap down, so a 2nd Amendment solution wasn't necessary.

(63 posts)"topple" the US government, but rather its possible for a lesser force to give a significantly more superior force a run for their money depending on a multitude of factors. Which is correct.

(4,616 posts)Wonder what "citizens" he's referring to? The ones in jail crying now for trying to be storm troopers in the Capital or the ones who are scrubbing their social media accounts and hiding under the bed? Biggest mistake and potentially the most dangerous is the republican snowflakes convincing themselves they are the only citizens armed.
