Previous threads of this crazy SAGA of trying to get hired as an "over 50" person... ugh
https://www.democraticunderground.com/100215517474
last post on the previous thread: rejected by sales and marketng...on the way to Front Desk interview, also had a car accident on Monday which made me all emotional/triggered
Funny, I wasnt as excited for the last interview...but showed up anyway. There's 2 managers and we had an awesome talk and it wasnt even a formal interview cuz we just talked about experiences and stuff and they said "you just interviewed yourself, cuz you already told us all we need"
so im starting Monday in Front Desk/Guest Services... justr straight customer service and I dig it.
Im the kind of person that will prnt out a map iof my own to show people where to go and stuff to see... I had a kid leave his great-grandmother's bear at the resort i worked at once. and once I found him, I took him on a tour of the resort, took pics of his little "vacation" and emailed the mom as I put him in the box to go home. That kinda stuff makes me happy... and I even did it off the clock...it was just part of what I did...
So anyway they are totally cool, and I already did all the onboarding papers and orientation online... and the company also has it's own online school you can take little 30 min videos and classes about all sorts of professional things...from how to handle an active shooter or a fire....to how to communicate more professionally and coaching with fellow employees...
Im excited to finally be a part of something that offers me more than just a job.
also, we talked about holidays and scheduling, I mentioned I am a new years baby...and then later when talking about hotel perks and being able to stay places i mentioned I'd been dreanming of going to Cozumel for my birthday, cuz Ive not only never traveled, but always wanted to get out of winter for my bday... they both proimised to make sure I had my toes in the sand by my bday
I know the early mornings and hours are gonna make me hurt and be tired for a couple weeks, but they also talked about being furloughed and knowing that feeling of wanting to do something, but also being a lump! LoL
so my first 40-hour week starts monday
yikes!

(914 posts)First couple of weeks are going to be a drastic change.
Try to plan the things you have to do daily ahead of time. Things like meal planning. Keep it simple.
Again, congratulations.

I love your story about the little boy's bear, too. Did you tell them about that? That's one of the coolest and most magically creative and genuinely dear things I've ever heard done! I bet they were both thrilled and delighted, and also quite touched.
I think if I had a customer relations opening to fill, you'd be an outstanding hire.

fast food windows. At hardware stores, which was great having experienced
help looking for stuff. People over 40 should be in great demand!

(11,316 posts)First couple weeks (for any new position) are kind of stressful. Acknowledge that - and just plow on through until you come up for air - feeling much, much better in a short time.

I've done two long trips in my life on my savings up when I was toung. Two long trips as gifts from others later in life. And some modest trips on my own dime, and paid back for others in between.
Ahhh, you're gonna love it! 🚅 🛤️✈️ 🛥️ etc 👍
