Alex Noble 7 hrs ago
What Chuck Todd sees as good old-fashioned bipartisanship by booking election deniers on NBC's "Meet the Press," many critics are expressing their disdain for his laissez-faire approach to enabling the spread of misinformation.
"Chuck Todd is a dangerous fing imbecile," one Twitter user said.
On Thursday's installment of "The Interview," Mediaite's podcast, Todd defended interviewing politicians from the other side of the aisle, including Republicans who supported former President Donald Trump's attempts to contest the results of the 2020 election.
Saturday, NYU journalism professor Jay Rosen tweeted a quote from Todd's interview: "You don't know when somebody you think deserves to be banned is suddenly somebody that you've got to deal with. Because you may not like them, but they have the power."
That revealing quote which was Todd's answer to Mediaite's Aidan McLaughlin when he was asked whether such politicians should be banned from "Meet the Press" and other Sunday shows led to the NBC host trending on Twitter and receiving some considerable pushback.

(9,959 posts)... I was ready to defend Chuck Todd, based on the headline. Like all TV reader hosts, he can challenge false stories and invite people on to defend their lies. Most refuse, I know; hosts say Mr/Ms So-And-So was invited and declined But after reading the part which included his explanation, I had to change my mind. They have the power because Chuck gives it to them!

(129,094 posts)It is a feature and not a bug that he has allowed rampant propaganda to persist for years - whether on his latest gig on MTP or his crap shows before then. And for him to be on a (free) network broadcast program makes it worse because at least when on MSNBC, which is restricted to a cable subscriber audience, the number of people impacted was narrower. But on network, you get full blown misinformation amplification.

(1 post)Good: People see how crazy they are
Bad: Not everyone will think they're crazy
Ugly: Wide audience

(8,924 posts)I wouldn't mind interviews with them if he would expose their lies, but he perpetuates them.
That's why I turned him off a long time ago.

(129,094 posts)I had hoped they would put in someone who had some sense. But Schmuck is even worse.
Anyone who has seen his and Andrea Mitchell's GOP-shilling "bothsiderisms" over the past decade, know the deal. I stopped looking at anything from MTP when they first brought Gregory on and it flew right off the cliff with this idiot (who actually came to the NBC franchise the year before Gregory started doing MTP).

(1,751 posts)are NOT watching MTP.
When the lazy lying steaming pile Hump met with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un it was deemed wrong to give that vile dictator a platform which legitimizes him. The same thing is happening here. Reasonable people already know the big lie is dangerous to everything America is supposed to laud.

(14,275 posts)He just accepts everything they say with no pushback or follow up. Blatant lies are tacitly endorsed by him when he gives the liars an unchallenged platform. Yet someone gets on his show to discuss facts and he shreds them.
The only journalistic purpose he serves is in presenting an on-going workshop in how not to do interviews.

(15,334 posts)"Gertrude Alflin, 86, passed away peacefully in her sleep. Some say she was a woman of tremendous faith, attending church every morning. Others say that she was really a cruel woman who hated her family. Reports are that she became more of a homebody when the love of her life, Bernard, passed away several years ago, although some have questioned her whereabouts at the time of his death. In lieu of flowers, the family have asked that you play a Bingo Card in her honor at the Tuesday Afternoon VFW Post Bingo Game, but some people say that this would only encourage gambling.
She'll be laid to rest at Shady Grove Cemetery and Drive-Thru on Monday, although some have said it will be Wednesday."

(42,334 posts)I remember a few years ago, when Dems had the House and Rs the Senate. The House was passing bill after bill and sending them to the Senate, where they'd sit on McConnell's desk. More than 200 bills, IIRC.
Todd asked his panel, in his usual sneering voice, what Democrats had accomplished. "And don't tell me about all the bills Pelosi got passed because they are going nowhere in the Senate. That's not an accomplishment."

Todd equates them as has having power like the Speaker of the House? Most if not all are low level idiots.

HE THOUGH LEE ATWATER WAS A GENIUS!
Also, he never earned a college degree.
He's not a journalist by education. He's not a political scientist.
He's just a guy who failed up.
