(102,292 posts)Or is the highly uneducated daughter of a similarly ignorant former Governor--both well trained only in the "art" of RW lies, obfuscation, arrogance, and Trumpist conspiracy theory--impossible to beat?

(29,718 posts)if the Rs don't completely destroy voting rights. I read Marc Elias is going to work on our laws and with Chris Jones as candidate, we have a chance and he will pull lots of down ticket candidates along with him. Of course, this is all dependent on how suppressed the election is.

I do appreciate the attempt of a competent Democrat running.

(53,061 posts)Unfortunately I don't think Democrats understand the fundamental difference between Democrat and Republican psychology in supporting a candidate at ground level.
Democrats vote for candidates like Mr. Jones because they want to be proud of their state and get the best policies.
Your average Republican voter looks at a guy like Mr. Jones and see a reminder of how much they have f**ked up their life. Bad job, ruined marriages, can't pay the bills and then this super performer runs reminding them what losers they are. Like the average Confederate soldier who got no benefit from slavery but could not bear the possibility that there would be free blacks doing better than they.
They will see a guy who has better book leaning, better religious habits and a better educated wife and kids.
Yesterday I needed to borrow a tool and there was a worker who has been working on the house across the street that I had talked with before the inauguration. He looked beat down, only had a few teeth left but was friendly. We live in a deeply blue neighborhood and didn't want him to lose work so I didn't respond to his worry about Biden taking over.
Yesterday I asked him if he had the wrench I needed and he cheerfully came over and helped for a minute. I wondered how he could eat food with so few teeth.
I looked at his license plate on his truck and it was Arkansas. I could see him voting for Clinton because he was a rascal and could se himself at the same or even higher moral level as Bill. I am afraid when he looks at Jones he will see someone who has succeeded 100 times better in 100 different ways than he did and will believe any hair brained rumor rather than vote for him.
WhiteTara
(29,718 posts)and if we can galvanize them with voter registration, he could win because he is black and Sarah 3 names is not liked, even among republicons here.

(6,890 posts)It does make it very clear how vital voting rights are. Because if they damage those enough , a superstar in a state fileed - not, not filled, but with a plurality - of garbage voters does not stand a chance.

(3,282 posts)Towards democrats for several cycles though, Arkansas is going in the wrong direction. Republicans are winning statewide races by 30 points routinely.
Demographics are better in Georgia too. Arkansas is about 1/5 black while Georgia is closer to 1/3. Non-hispanic whites in Arkansas are 2/3 while in Georgia they are just over 1/2.
Winning Arkansas wouldn't be like winning Georgia. It would be more like Doug Jones winning Alabama. It would take a big scandal to give him a good shot at it.
For Arkansas sake I hope he can climb that mountain because SHS is going to be awful for the state.

(89,252 posts)We need to avoid what happened this past election with so much investment in South Carolina and Kentucky when we should have put more into a few other states.
It's good to have good candidates and to support them but not the way it happened in this past election with those 2 states.

(7,633 posts)It is actually laughable that Sarah Huckabee would even consider herself competent to run against this man. She has zero accomplishments, he is at the pinnacle of his profession, he has been successful in both his professional and family life, has a strong set of values and can not be criticized for an outsider, his family has deep roots in Arkansas. I hope Bill Clinton endorses him and he gets noticed.

(32,086 posts)is that she spent two years lying for Donald Trump to run their state, let alone over this gentleman. But, we're talking Arkansas. They may have elected Bill Clinton to that job, but they've gotten progressively nuttier since then. Reverend Jones is miles above Sarah Honey Boo Boo in every way, shape and form. I hope the voters in Arkansas recognize that, but I am not at all confident that this will be the case.

(11,738 posts)That is one of the best political ads I have seen in the last 20 years. I am sure that it will be an uphill battle for Jones, especially in Arkansas and against Huckabee.
You have an intelligent, accomplished, articulate, and seemingly good person of color running against a product of nepotism, who lies freely and easily, like her father, and yet this will likely be a very tough race. That is the sad state of affairs in the United States.

This has to be shared on media critique websites... this is how it's done and done right. A 2.5 minute ad is a long one, but each second if complete and interesting.
Phd's should be required of all governors, senators, congressperson and yes, even presidents. I like the smart ones.
