Check Frontline, if you can:

An investigation with NPR into growing inequities in American healthcare exposed by COVID-19. How pressure for profit and uneven government support is widening the divide between rich and poor.

BAD news, healthcare should NOT be FOR PROFIT; this changed within recent history.

3. There should be ZERO profit available for providing healthcare.

People in the healthcare field should be paid good salaries, but that's ALL. No other profit available to insurance cos., pharmaceutical companies, etc. All of their research could and should be publicly funded.

4. How can it not be for profit?

Experimental medical research and biotech startups are funded because of the profit motive. We need that or we will lose Innovation.

We need a blend... A healthy balance between both nonprofit and for profit.

And we need a rebalancing toward nonprofit programs.

There are alternatives to capitalism. The US is not the only economic model, and many would say it's among the worst.

And,"they" take the value of socialism for granted. Our system makes us great when we balance they two.

We are out of balance. But will be worse is we collapse backward into communism.

We just need thoughtful balance.

6. I think they meant that for profit health INSURANCE is inherently wrong.

It will always be inherently wrong. The for-profit insurance companies are the problem. If health care costs are high because of so much going into research, great! Then we should be seeing the benefits of that research being put to use in society for everyone. Not just those who can afford it. The costs should be standardized throughout our society. They should be levied on all citizens as a tax for living in a civilized society. If everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, in our society was covered the same regardless of income - and charged the same percentage of their gross income - we would be able to cover everyone no problem. Look at all the other countries with lower GDP than the US that can afford healthcare to their citizens. The American healthcare insurance industry is grotesque. The claim that they are necessary in the interest of innovation is a lie. They are only about profit… and that comes at the expense of denying people life saving care. For profit Health Insurance should and ought to be banned completely - it is inherently inhumane and self serving to companies themselves.
