... after hearing about delayed mask shipments, according to new book
"You f---ing moron," Kushner reportedly yelled at then-assistant secretary of the Health and Human Services Department, Robert Kadlec, who purchased 600 million masks as coronavirus infections had spiked across the country. "We'll all be dead by June!"
The scene was revealed in the new book, "Nightmare Scenario: Inside the Trump Administration's Response to the Pandemic That Changed History," by Washington Post reporters Yasmeen Abutaleb and Damian Paletta.
Kushner grew so frustrated that he threw his pen at the wall, the book reports. At the time, he had taken on greater responsibilities as senior advisor to former President Donald Trump, playing an influential role in the White House's COVID-19 response.

The whole thing would be comical if hundreds of thousands of people weren't dead because of these incompetent shitheels.

fight over whether or not they should have gay boys or gay men openly involved. Seems quaint, at this point, but it was not so long ago, and it got vicious.
The essayist painted a skillful word-picture that looked very like that map: in essence, the greater the population density, the more tolerant people were of differences of all kinds. In a city of any size, its a rare person who can manage to associate only with their own kind in work, school, neighborhoods, and public transportation.
The lower the population density, the more likely it is that people had never (or seldom) encountered anyone not of the same ethnic stock think Lake Woebegone, where it was noteworthy whether your family was Lutheran or Catholic, and whether their forebears were Danish or Norwegian. Difference is anomalous and it feels wrong. People who are too different
. move away to big cities.
That was it. Once I grasped that, all political maps clicked into place.

(100,132 posts)Just the luck of the draw, I guess, but between my home state of Hawaii and the rest of my life being on the coast of California, Ive had lots of experience being with people who dont share my ethnic background etc etc.
Everything Ive read about the prototypical small town life leads me to believe it shares something with being born a Mormon: its great and cozy, warm and wonderful, everybody knows your name, and all your quirks, and they love you
unless you somehow end up thinking outside the box. You end up thinking too divergently, and you end up with no one to talk to. You end up isolated in the midst of all those people. It can break your heart.
Being a divergent thinker myself, Im glad I ended up where I did.

(48,660 posts)Concerns about a dwindling supply of PPE are not new. Back on February 7, the World Health Organization sounded alarm bells about "the limited stock of PPE," noting demand was 100 times higher than normal for this equipment.
Yet the same day as the WHO warning, the Trump administration announced that it was transporting to China nearly 17.8 tons (more than 35,000 pounds) of "masks, gowns, gauze, respirators, and other vital materials." As Secretary of State Mike Pompeo noted in the press release announcing this shipment, "These donations are a testament to the generosity of the American people."
https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/29/opinions/coronavirus-personal-protective-equipment-obeidallah/index.html
If the moron in the White House had activated the Defense Production Act and gotten the manufacturer in Texas and others cranking out PPE to replace what was sent to China, it might have been OK. But he didnt, and it was disastrous.
