Gov Reynolds approves sending Iowa State Patrol troopers to US-Mexico border

Gov. Kim Reynolds has approved sending Iowa State Patrol troopers to the U.S.-Mexico border in response to a request for assistance from Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.

Reynolds, a Republican, made the announcement Thursday. She said Iowa law enforcement agencies have encountered drugs and weapons that were smuggled across the border by cartels.
. . .
Sgt. Alex Dinkla, a public information officer for the Iowa Department of Public Safety, said the state expects to send 25 to 30 sworn officers to Texas. The troopers are expected to be deployed for about two weeks, he said in a statement.
. . .
Abbott and Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey, both Republicans, sent a letter to all U.S. governors on June 10 requesting assistance. In the letter, they invoked an Emergency Management Assistance Compact that allows states to assist each other in times of disaster or emergency. Both governors have declared emergencies and deployed the National Guard to the border. Abbott has also asked to reallocate $250 million to build a border wall.
. . .
Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Idaho Gov. Brad Little, all Republicans, have said they plan to send law enforcement to the border to provide assistance.

Gov Reynolds refused to accept immigrant children last month because "it isn't Iowa's problem, it's Biden's problem".

It is simply mind boggling that this ignorant twit is governor. She doesn’t have the brains to run a lemonade stand. Her conduct during the worst of the pandemic caused the unnecessary deaths of many Iowans. One can only hope that Democrats come up with a strong candidate to run against her in 2022.

This is the "Highway Patrol" . . . I guess Iowa doesn't need all the troopers they employ.

Can they be "deputized" by the Texans? But at any rate, they have no federal jurisdiction and Biden has but off that agreement thingy they started under Bush.

Despite her rising approval rating, the poll shows that among likely Iowa voters in 2022, a majority think it’s time for someone other than Kim Reynolds to be governor. Only 46 percent responded that they would vote to reelect Reynolds, compared to 51 percent who responded it was time for someone else (three percent were unsure).

Nice to see, but I'll believe it when it happens. We have such a hard time getting these people out of office. Grassley's a hundred. Kim sucks. Joni is a joke. They still keep getting re-upped.

They have 3 of the 4 US House sets. I think Liz Mathis (former news anchor, Cedar Rapids resident, I think) may run for one next time. I'd love to see that. Our former House rep, Abby Finkenauer, has spoken of running for a Senate seat. She was beaten in the last election by Hinson. I'm not a big fan of people who've lost running again.

I still can't believe Braley lost to Ernst. I've always wished Vilsack would come back. It's not that I love him, it's that he was a winner. He could probably beat one of those clowns.

Another pattern here where red states will be sending less than 100 State troopers to the USA - Mexican border for nothing else but ops.

Iowa police officers have no authority in Texas or any other state. What are they supposed to do down there except sweat.

I hate living in this state. They pass the most dumb*ss laws, most of which are completely unnecessary. 1) Some of it is red meat to the base. Things like allowing people to ride ATV's on the streets and light fireworks. There's no demand for it, but it'll make a few lobbyists and goobers happy. Of course the effete r's won't have to live with it b/c they're in their gated communities and don't live among the goobers. If they did, they'd just pass an HOA thing outlawing it where they live. 2) Some of it is just to piss of the libs.

Both she and Grassley seem to do the same thing. They do/say a lot of crappy stuff in off years. When elections get closer, they act and talk more measured. Not that they'd probably have trouble getting re-elected in this dam state anyway.

do states find all of this time and resources to pull stupid stunts and pass crazy (and often unconstitutional) laws and stuff- and yet still manage to get (re-)elected time after time? It just.........beggars belief.
