Pressley is latest 'squad' member to back Turner in Ohio special election

Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) on Tuesday threw her support behind former Ohio state Sen. Nina Turner (D) in her bid to represent the Ohio's 11th Congressional District.

“If we are going to make real progress on the urgent crises facing all of our communities, we need lawmakers who are committed to legislating boldly - that's Nina,” Pressley said in a statement endorsing Turner.

Pressey said Turner, who previously served as a national co-chair of Sen. Bernie Sanders's (I-Vt.) 2020 presidential campaign, has been “unapologetic in her advocacy and her vision for the communities” in her district.

“As I’ve always said, policy is my love language, and I know Nina shares my belief in what we can accomplish when we create policies intentionally and in deep partnership with the community. I’m proud to endorse her candidacy, and look forward to working with her in Congress,” she added in a statement obtained by The Hill.

The endorsement makes Pressley the latest member of the progressive group of female congresswomen — which also includes Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) — to back Turner in the race.

As Shontel Brown said today in response to Majority Whip Clyburn's endorsement:

“As the leader of this party, I am truly skilled in building bridges and doing it without attacking people or insulting them,” she said Tuesday. If sent to Washington, she added, “I won’t have to start with a long letter of apology.”

Even the New York Times observed in their article on Clyburn's endorsement:

Ms. Turner is undoubtedly a divisive figure as well. A prominent surrogate for Mr. Sanders in 2016 and a national co-chairwoman for his campaign in 2020, she has never minced words about what she calls “corporate Democrats.” She has declined to say whether she voted for Ms. Clinton in 2016, and before Election Day in November, she suggested the choice between Donald J. Trump and Mr. Biden was the choice between a full bowl of excrement and half a bowl.

(they cleaned it up, but we all know what she really said)

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/06/29/us/politics/jim-clyburn-nina-turner-special-election-cleveland.html

By the way, since you brought up young progressives, Shontel Brown is younger than both Nina Turner and Ayanna Pressley.

donations can match the big donor money swamping the race from outsiders who presumably approve her efforts to defeat Democrats in 2016. Nothing succeeds like horrible success for those who despise the Democratic Party? Trump demonizes us all as "radical left," but he owes so much to them. It's very ungrateful of him.

This isn't a lone statement. She spent the primary pushing deceits and calumny against Democrats on behalf of Sanders and then the GE;also campaigning to defeat Democrats.
