Steve Schmidt: There are many reasons to have contempt for Kevin McCarthy.

There are many reasons to have contempt for Kevin McCarthy. He seems to be a man absent any virtues except an easy amiability and indefatigable spirit in pursuit of pleasing other Members vanities. He has a virtuosos talent for personal debasement in the performance of the small

political tasks that determine the rise and fall of GQP flotsam in Conference politics. McCarthy is many things; he is deeply dishonest and cynical. He is selfish and self interested. He doesn’t care for much of anything beyond his primacy in the club he has mastered (2)

with a combination of obsequiousness, flattery and fundraising shamelessness. He makes stupid statements and contradicts himself at the firing pace of a Gatling gun. He oozes an intellectual lightness that makes one wonder if he might simply float

away when he opens his mouth. His lack of principle and core convictions are self evident to any person with the wits of a field mouse. All of these things are worthy of contempt but none of them approaches the despicability of his greatest vice (4)

He is a coward. He has betrayed the ideas and ideals of the American Revolution with his embrace of authoritarianism. There is no lie he won’t tell. There is no act he will not commit in the name of power. He has led the charge in obliterating faith and belief in the legitimacy

of the American system of government, not because he believes in Trump or the autocratic cause but rather because he believes in nothing at all. Nothing. That’s the sin. He is a man to whom the country has given everything it can give. He is a taker. Think about great Patriots

like General Benjamin O Davis, John Lewis, Rosa Parks and Dr.King. The country offered these people nothing. It scorned their love and yet they had the power to believe in the possibility of the promise of an idea and had faith about what could be. They were brave and strong.

They loved the country McCarthy has betrayed. It is an empty and loathsome betrayal that will one day consign him to a place of ignominy. He has desecrated the blood sacrifices of ten generations of Americans who have fought to bend the arc towards justice and expand the promise

of American freedom. He did these things because he was afraid of mean tweets and the possibility of being politically bruised by standing for the right. He deserves all of our contempt and when we are all celebrating on the 4th we should ponder the sacrifices made by Men and

Women who defended and expanded freedom in this country with nothing but moral and physical courage. We celebrate heroes on the 4th, not cowards. What a lonely day it must be for the lowly leader of the 21st Century autocratic Bund @GOPLeader Kevin McCarthy, a name that will

Stain his great grandchildren as surely as the name Arnold stained Benedict’s . What a disgrace.

I know some of my du friends don’t have the same respect for him as I do. His loyalties n belief in a party we’re shattered n he acknowledges that very well. He’s a man of principles n has been betrayed but is out there telling us about what can happen to a very fragile democracy and warning us about that slippery slop. He’s earned his respect with his service to our country. He’s earned my respect by his actions n words to beware.

I seem to have misjudged the “nowhere man” point. I was thinking what was not the point. I’ll humbly get off my soapbox
