He's doing some sort of new age surfing, but the song is about West Virginia and he's carrying an American flag?

This does seem something like an alien race would do to appear to be a normal, human American.

If he really needed a photo op couldn't he arrange a campfire or BBQ with his wife and kids? Or boating with his kids, or something?

This makes the picture of the BP CEO look positively normal in comparison (other than the timing and the fact he should have been working on an oil well problem).
