Mayor speaking now

(3,709 posts)The mayor stated that the MDFD has conducted room to room searches three times. They looked under beds, in closets, and in those areas unsafe, they sent a robot in to search. They also placed food and water on the balconies and kept watch to find them. The firefighters stated they found no animals. That may mean that some ran away and some may not have survived but there were no animals to rescue.
Full disclosure, I live in Miami and have friends involved in animal rescue associations. They kept the pressure on the authorities to search but the MDFD did this search without urging.
There are few in this city who have not been affected by this situation. We have friends who live in the area, friends who lived in that building, and the Miami-Dade mayor, police, and fire department have performed with skill and honor.

(15,155 posts)There was a woman interviewed (my husband saw it) who said she escaped the building but left her cat.
I'm so glad to know that they did this!

(3,709 posts)It is tragic and no one wanted to leave them behind but if there had been animals to rescue they would have been. We can only hope they did escape. There are several streets of houses right behind Collins so maybe they made their way there.
Just a very sad situation.

Seriously, is there a reason for doing this at night?

I have not seen or heard interviews with any family members of the 121 still unaccounted for.
Local officials are locking down the whole area telling residents to shelter in place and take precautions for dust and debris.
I still think this demolition is too fast. BTW I am local and have watershed nothing but local news coverage since the collapse lest any members feel the need to poo-poo my comments.
How you doing, Malaise?
Sympthsical
(9,120 posts)Theyve been monitoring it from the beginning. Leaning, sinking, etc. they already halted rescue and search once because of it.
Its just safer to bring down. The only reason the collapse didnt take it with is because of the elevator wall.
