GOP Rep Thomas Massie Schooled After Claiming Military 'Will Quit If the COVID Vaccine Is Mandated'

Kentucky congressman Thomas Massie found himself on the receiving end of a lesson in military protocol on Monday morning, after suggesting that active-duty members can simply "quit."

On Saturday, the GOP representative posted that he had been in touch with members of the military who were considering "quitting" if they were forced to get a COVID vaccine, which so far has largely proven safe.

Naturally, folks on Twitter were quick to remind Massie — or perhaps inform him for the first time — that no one can just quit the military. One must be officially discharged, otherwise leaving is considering going AWOL (Absent Without Official Leave).

Many also pointed out that military members are already required to get more than a dozen other vaccines when they first join.

"Literally everyone who has served has a story about how they walked a line and got 6-10 shots of unknown substances," one person tweeted. "For the record, the Department of Defense currently administers 17 different vaccines."

I never questioned them; in fact I was happy to be protected from diseases like cholera.

prior to candidates being allowed to run for a particular government elected position. Also, some sort of comprehensive exam on the workings of the military, the business environment, the justice system, etc. should be given, prior to candidates being allowed to run. We're getting too many unqualified people, whose biggest attributes seem to be a big mouth, in order to run. I thought that we were getting pass this whole thing, where candidates were selected based upon their intelligence, their common sense knowledge, their widespread knowledge base of issues, big and small, etc., in short, we want candidates that know what the hell they're talking about. For the most part, we have this in the Democratic Party, where tons of candidates are out there that can quote tons of facts about the Constitution, the Amendments, the history of the USA, etc.

Of course we don't see this in the republican party. All they want seemingly is candidates that will toe the company line, that is, keep the tax breaks for the wealthy in place for as long as possible, and in order to try and retain power, bring up red button issues and lie, lie, lie.

I firmly believe they blackmail Republican members once they are elected with little reminders of their dirty laundry.
There is no other explanation for their lockstep march on all the nefarious and wrong-headed stuff they are willing to blindly support.

The difference between "quitting" and resigning at the end of obligated service (for officers) or not re-enlisting.

((I'm wondering if HIS father managed to "dodge the column", because as a military brat I knew about this.))

((And as a military brat, we had to get shot up too before going overseas. I think I can still find my smallpox scar...))
