Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) claims in a new court filing that he was asked by a White House official to speak at former president Donald Trump's infamous "Stop the Steal" rally that preceded the Jan. 6 insurrection.
The Alabama Republican was given Trump's endorsement for the U.S. Senate after making the speech, which a lawsuit alleges helped incite the violent assault on the U.S. Capitol, but Brooks' attorneys responded by insisting he only took part because the former president wanted him there.
"Brooks only gave the Ellipse Speech because the White House asked him to, in his capacity as a United States Congressman, speak at the Ellipse Rally," the new court filing says. "But for the White House request, Brooks would not have appeared at the Ellipse Rally."

(36,132 posts)The effort is being led by Representative Mo Brooks, Republican of Alabama ... he is eyeing challenges to the election results in five different states Arizona, Pennsylvania, Nevada, Georgia and Wisconsin where they claim varying degrees of fraud or illegal voting took place, despite certification by the voting authorities and no evidence of widespread impropriety....

He'd been in on finding any means necessary to overturn battleground popular votes. With Trump and Stone he plotted to spread the 'stop the steal' message, pressure citizens groups and rally attenders to fight, pressure congressional Republicans, Pence himself -- he planned to stop the electoral process from outside and inside the Capitol.
The fucking lying coup conspirator is trying to weasel his way out of the court charges he now faces.

These "men" are sort of embarrassing-- Brooks now swearing that he did what he knew was wrong because Trump ordered him... DeSantis begging Trump for permission IN HIS OWN STATE to skip a Trump-drool rally so that he could go to a local disaster where 150 people died.
Do they even hear themselves?
But maybe they'd rather appear craven and humiliated, so that they can better aver their absolute loyalty to Trump.
Seriously, George Washington didn't get this level of worship. Christ didn't, for Christ's sake.
What is it about Trump?
When we look at him, we see a shambling wreck who is an arrogant idiot and vicious and predatory, and creepy.
What do THEY see?

(16,937 posts)Truly, "WHAT DO THEY SEE?"
We have seen SO many reports, studies, opinion columns, etc.; - all trying to explain it to anybody that cares to try to understand.
Smart (?) people, idiots, dummies, etc. - SO many - and they not only 'like' him - they adore him and worship him!
And, after all said and done - I just don't get it.........

(28,349 posts)Mo gladly ranted and raved on 1/6. He'd do it again, too.
He wanted TFG's endorsement, but TFG doesn't do anything for free. I bet he creamed his jeans to be up there with TFG, so he best keep still or he'll lose that endorsement.
But, who is suing Mo?

These people are lame. Always someone else's fault for their own bad decisions. Guess they figure if it's worked so well for the former guy, they'll give it a whirl.

(3,282 posts)was on the baseball field when the shooting happened. If I remember right he hid in the dugout during it.
Right after he was happy to go on CNN with Chris Cuomo and talk all about it. He was really adamant that they needed to turn down the rhetoric. Seems he forgot all about that because now he uses fiery rhetoric to whip mobs into violence and uses CNN, the first network he ran to after the shooting, as a whipping boy.
He's on tape telling a mob that they need to go "take down names and kick ass" and that mob immediately proceeds to attack the US Capitol. Good luck explaining how you don't share fault, Mo.

First of all, I thought we all were imbued with free will and the ability to make our own decisions. Just say no, Mo.
Secondly, we have a separation of powers in the USA. President can't force a Congressman to do his bidding. Just say no, Mo.
As far as allowing this treasonous bastard to continue representing his constituency, JUST SAY NO MO MO.
