Are you folks watching the match with the Fed.
I noticed a new Rolex ad this morning - may have missed it before but essentially it says Fed is pure elegance and class and it doesn't matter who wins because he is IT (my interpretation).
Of course Rolex is Swiss. I suspect this is his last year at Wimbledon.
I say all this to say that he just lost the 1st set to Hubert Hurkacz

(6,356 posts)First one I saw was maybe during the French Open....made me jump up and check the web to see if he had called it quits. Just some weird languaging (at least to me)...not the way you talk about a guy who's still going into work everyday.
Not sure which one you saw but I'm sure it'll show up here in a bit. I'm just now managing to get to a TV.

(268,979 posts)Certainly the most elegant player in my lifetime - but I'm a Nadal fan

(6,356 posts)I love Nadal too but I'm a softie - I pretty much love them all...maybe Djokovic less than the rest. Of all of them, he "seems" like the arrogant prick (IMHO, for sure).
We've been blessed in Cincinnati with the last big ATP before the USOpen on the same same surface so they all play here. Nadal played Fed about 10 years ago in a mid-round and beat him pretty soundly and went on to win his only Cincy title. IIRC, it actually wasn't much of a match.
Fed probably has the most wins here. It's a hell of a rush to see these guys play live. It looks like a fast game on TV but live - it's really really fast. One year, we scored front row baseline tix right on top of the speed gun and watched Isner beat Novak. Watching those 120mph serves coming right at ya - unbelievable how they get a racquet on 'em.
Can you tell I'm stoked for this year after missing out last year !!!!!

He just didnt look right today.

(268,979 posts)Nadal would never have given him a bagel - out of sheer respect. I didn't like that but I agree with CincyDem that youth, inexperience and the fear of letting a great player back in took over.
spooky3
(34,445 posts)and I agree with you and CincyDem.
Now go Felix!

Felix is serving for the 2nd set
spooky3
(34,445 posts)to the TV, I was sure from Felix's demeanor that he had dropped the second set. He's so stoic! Glad to be fooled!
Canadians must be going crazy today. I was in Montreal when Denis beat Rafa several years ago and EVERYONE was talking about it--not just tennis fans.
