As youve no doubt heard by now, last week the Trump Organization and its longtime CFO, Allen Weisselberg, were hit with a slew of criminal charges, including conspiracy, grand larceny, and multiple counts of tax fraud and falsifying records, all of which they pleaded not guilty to. Clearly this is extremely bad news for not just the company, which former executives believe is going to be destroy[ed], and Weisselberg, who faces more than a decade in prison if convicted on all charges, but the entire Trump clan too. While Donald Trump is obviously the first name that comes to mind when envisioning a scenario in which a Trump family member is sentenced to time in prison, according to numerous experts, his adult children should be extremely concerned as well, starting with his favorite offspring: Ivanka Trump.
Appearing on MSNBC on Monday, former federal prosecutor Cynthia Alksne told host Alicia Menendez that last weeks charges were merely an opening salvo, and that the Manhattan District Attorneys Office has sent a message that (1) Weisselberg should really, really consider flipping and cooperating against the Trumps, and (2) Cyrus Vance Jr. is just getting started. Prosecutors went to an amazing amount of effort to show Weisselberg we have everything we need, and theyre really not only pressuring him to flip, but the amount of detail in this indictment tells me that theyre trying to tell other people you have got to flip, because we have everything; we have the double books. We know what you told your tax accountants was a lie. We know that were gonna be able to prove these cases, Alksne told Menendez. So I think...first its Weisselberg and [then] there are a lot of other people mentioned, individual number one or person X signed or person Y signed. Those people who are mentioned in the indictment, I would expect theyre next and then it builds. Asked how she would proceed if she were prosecuting the case and had access to the years of hidden records kept by the Trump Organization, Alksne said, I would focus [the investigation] on the kids. Apparently theyve had some testimony by the comptroller; in the state of New York that means theyve essentially given him immunity. So I would focus on the kids. My guess is [COO Matthew] Calamari is kind of easy picking and that there are similar ways to give money for the kids. Weve heard a lot of this reporting about Ivanka Trump getting consulting fees, consulting fees for things that she may or may not have done. That looks to me like the next place, but well just have to see.

(28,347 posts)Yes-siree, she did!
I remember right after TFG's inauguration, I read a lengthy article based on an interview with Jared and Ivanka. They both were enamoured by the White House and all the attention they received in Washington. The two thought of themselves qualified to be president, which I suppose they would considering a buffoon was now sitting behind the Oval Office's desk.
Anyway, they decided she would be POTUS first, so she could make history as America's first female president (reading that galled me as I was still aching over Hillary's loss), then after Ivanka's 8 years, Jared would be president. They joked about who would be President after 24 years of TFG, and then them. I can't believe they would even share this magical thinking out loud to a reporter. Seriously.
So now, after 4 years playing government, as her daddy, along with her husband, and their corrupt cronies destroyed America, she, and Jared are going to be wrapped up in so many legal issues they'll never, ever see their stupid dreams come true. They probably don't even have that dream anymore. Maybe they've had some doses of reality. I mean they don't live in the real world.
I would be thrilled to see her indicted, along with the lot of them. I'd like to see them broke, too, but I guess they have oodles of dirty money stashed away in several places. But if they're behind bars, they can't spend it and live in the lap of luxury.
She, like all the wealthy and powerful before her, will escape any consequences, and maybe even run for President. And if enough salivating evangelicals get a hard on, together with even more voting suppression, she may just win.
I wouldn't make a joke out of it just yet.

(63,221 posts)I never knew that? What hubris!
Who do they think they are? Members of the Royal Family? They aren't even taking into consideration whether or not they are qualified or if people would even vote for them. They are just so entitled they think they can just slide right into the position without any effort.
I so want to see this entire family burn to the ground. I want to see them so ruined that there will never be a chance for them to recover in their lifetime.
I always thought that the assasination of Tsar Nicholas II, his wife and five young children (and various servants/etc.) was extremly cruel and unfair, especially to the children, but after having the Trumps in power, I am beginning to understand it a bit more.
I still think it was cruel and would never want anything bad to happen to thier children, but I see how a society would want to stop a dynastic family if they were bringing their nation to ruin and causing great hardship and misery.

(15,286 posts)and an employee at the same time, but Ivanka was paid as both. It seems similar to Weissleberg in that she would be able to avoid taxes on that money by setting up a Keogh Plan as he did. For all we know, Vance and James could have all the kids' tax returns, too.
